when the description is go down there past that shed keep going about 3 times that distance , you'll know your there when you see a line of S10 up the hill

tools in your pockets headed out to find what you need.

you go get it off the vehicle and come back and decide the price

we were looking for a square body 83-93 s10 drivers door.

ended up finding a few that would work , but when I found a nearly rust free one we had our door

the interior panel was junk but we have that to transfer from the original door

where I grew up in SE WI most of the old scrap yards were pressured by the town to clean up the acres of cars , now they have a few but mostly they bring in cars pull what they want and off to the crusher

didn't think my son would get the experience of the part hunt , but on about 80 acre of yard today it was like going back in time.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Almost all the old time junkyards like that are gone here. Just some like you say , they pull some stuff and crush the rest.

Old time junkyards were recycling before recycling was cool. I miss that. You need something here , limited selection because they crushed it all. They can get it for you , but I can get it too online just like them. Used to be neat to walk through acres of cars , kinda like a museum of old cars. You might be looking for an S10 door but see a Pinto or a Vega or something else that brings back memories of days gone by.

Part of the problem is there are so many models now, models change so fast, and people replace vehicles sooner. If you started a parts junkyard now, it would be too obsolete to make any money within a couple years.

Clunkers for junkers hurt this way of life.
Used to be able to buy a v-8 for a day or twos work wages.

Think I'm going to need a 700-R4, trouble is GOOD used ones are rare.
Might be better to find someone to go through mine.

I like the old dumps out in the pasture gullys. There's some real treasures in them.

I spent a lot of my squandered youth digging through those SE Wisconsin Salvage Yards for auto parts, talking to the guys than ran them was the best , some real characters that a mental inventory of every car or truck on the site.

Very true! I can't walk past one without stopping and rooting around a little.

Gone are the days of perfecting product instead of perfecting redundancy, like the bullet proof outboards North American companies made for decades that are so hard to find parts for now.

There was a junkyard just down the road from my home when I was 15. Great place to scrounge around. When dating my wife I took her to a nicer junkyard looking for a back seat for her 63 Belair.

Found one an she didn't mind going along. Later I scavenged the pedal assembly for a stick shift, when I put in the 427. That motor didn't pan out well.

It was like looking for gold. There were the GOOD OLE DAYS!

I spent a lot of time in the old "junk yards" We still have a few around but not many. There was one SE of me that had nothing but older trucks, vans, and panel trucks. I would stop there just to walk around and look at what they had added. Another one here is nothing but old tractors. I have to stay away from that one, I would stay broke all the time If I let myself go in that place.

I know a guy that had a "collection" junkyard out behind his house. Mostly old 70s Chevy pickups and the sort. His 12 yr old son would go out there and start tinkering with them, changing batteries and carburetors and stuff trying to make them run. Today that kid is 38 yrs old, owns a diesel repair shop with about 20 employees and is probably a millionaire! Junkyards are great playgrounds.

I remeber going through a junkyard in the 80's looking for parts. Found a lot of silver coins between the seats.

Lol, you just triggered a memory for me, maybe more late 70s ish though as kids sneaking into fenced compounds. Change and Canadian tire money. CT is similar to walmart and has paid a percentage back to the purchaser in the form of goofy fake money which could (can) be redeemed as cash at CT. Use to find lots in the glove boxes of wrecks.
