I respectfully disagree with you, Jim. Here's my thoughts as to why: "The Law" would be forced to investigate it as a "theft". I think we would all agree a theft charge is overkill in this situation. The school....well they are notorious for over reacting with expulsions and the like, so there's that.

Clearly this is a parenting issue. Nothing wrong with turning it into a teaching moment with emphasis on respect for other peoples property/ individual beliefs. In the end it was really a harmless prank where nobody got hurt....well maybe butt hurt.

A little public shaming shoud do it.
Make them walk around uptown for a week wearing big sandwich boards that say "thief and an idiot".
