Usally get a $5 filter for furnace monthly, have central air. Every 30 days if run much I change. They out $5 filters so got $9 filter, it has a Merv rating of 5, same as cheaper filter, although the one i just put in, has filtration level of 800 while the one usally put in, has a 300 filtration level, 20 year old furnace. Does anyone know if there is a significant difference. In the new higher filtration. Level filter i put in, than the old 300 level on old filter, dont want to restrict air flow an cause furnace problem. Same Merv level of 5,but higher filtration level, 500 more, not sure if new filter well restrict air flow much compared to old 300 filtration. Level or not , just reading on 3 m brand filter which I got, the Merv reading means nothing. They rate on microparticle removal performance rating, so I was at 300 an jump to 800, not sure if restrict air flow alot or not?

The higher filtration filters can clog and cause all sorts of problems. I'd stick with the lower filtration filters.

May be the reason for all your sinus issues Dave. Your filtration system in your house was not good? Seriously though I think you may be overthinking this a bit. LLL

Dave...maybe you could find some information about this on the internet. Try if for a month and see what happens, like LLtrapper said " May be the reason for all your sinus issues Dave"

I tried some of those higher degree filters for a year, until I had problems with the furnace cycling , had the AC/furnace guy come out and first thing he showed me was the rating on filters for my furnace, I had over exceeded it by three times and was starving it of air.

Get the regular one's and change them more often if needed it's cheaper than getting a new furnace.

My furnace guy says buy the cheapest filters and change more often rather than the expensive ones.

I can't find the rating for furnace. I always put in a 300 particle filtration filter, this is 800, wonder if be ok till later week when get Walmart. In 30 s an 40 s out, it well run some, not like winter , it is not a real high filtration filter compare to some. Had blower motor put in few yrs back, expensive. Don't want damage heat exchanger. Did look online Google it, nit find lot info, electrostatic filter is what I got. So maybe ok for little while. If change soon ?

Coonman, look online for the correct rating and find one that's washable. They aren't much more upfront but they last around a yr washed monthly

I can't find what takes. The size mine. 16-20 by 1 inch common size. An sell lot cheaper ones for $4-5, sometimes our, 3 m is brand, they don't rate by Merv. But multi particle resistance. Usally I get 300 more in 3 m brand filter. This is 800, not highest. Aslong as new. Probly get air though good enough, for a week till get another filter, I didn't think it until after put in yesterday,

Just went shopping before an got new furnace filter. The same $4 an change one I usally get , took the one out I put in Sunday. On plastic wrap package it say Merv 5, put on filter it say Merv 10, so I replace it with Merv 5, thinner filter , according to writing on filter. It has same air resistance as cheaper filter, but look at lure though filter. Cheaper one I can see lite fixture betrer, so cheaper one, mighg have better air flow. Old furnace aren't made for Merv 13, I hope Merv 10 filter in it for 4 days , wernt hard on furnace, it wasn't in real cold weather, an only in furnace 4 days. Not run that long when did. Probly not hard on blower motor or heat exchanger not overheat
