Hey guys, I’m wondering how you store peat moss after you buy it from stores? I’m trying to learn the right way to do it. Years ago, I put it in a bucket with a lid. It molded, so the year after I drilled small holes in the lid. It still molded, so I drilled 3 one inch holes in a lid, but mice got in and built nests in it. How do you guys store it? Thanks!!

You need to dry it out first. It's looses it's usefulness on the trap line if you don't . There's a guy that shows up to our flea market that sells what looks like 6-8 gallon blue hugs. My dry stuff gets stored in those.

I always buy it early and dry it out, till it's bone dry then store it in buckets never had mold issues with dried peat moss. If I buy it during season I put it in the white burlap sacs from Tractor supply tie the top shut and hang in the shed to dry out. Keeping it hung up has kept the mice from getting to it. Could also put it in a big tote. Cut a 6x6 inch square out the top of the lid and ducktape a screen cover over it that way it always is airing out and keeps the mice out.

I just keep mine in an open shed with the bag open. When I need it I scoop it out into plastic coffee cans to take to the field.

Put mine in a tote, loose lid. Turn it over every once in a while

Like these others guys have said, you need to dry it out. If it's getting moldy it's got too high a moisture content and won't perform as intended on the line.

I spread mine out on plastic on a hot summer day, usually in the bed of a pick up truck, then store it in clean, plastic 55 gallon barrels inside the fur shed.

Eh...wot?
