I haven't looked at the pictures but quite a few older Browning's had what was know as "salt treated" wooden stocks. Might check into that being an issue.

Well, the gun in the link is "SOLD" so I couldn't see the pictures. I am going to assume this was an older gun? I had purchased a BAR in 7mm Rem Mag back around 2002. It had the "BOSS System" recoil reduction muzzle. I bought the gun because I already had and really liked my A-bolt stainless stalker in the same caliber, but I REALLY disliked the BAR. I found it uncomfortable to shoulder and worst of all.. it was LOUD. So loud that it would damage your ears and cause tinnitus for days if you fired it without ear protection on. I traded it in for a BLR in .270 Win which is a joy to shoot and a much lighter gun in the brush. I am sure there is no comparison between the newer Brownings and the classics though and I would never discourage anyone from buying what they like/want as different guns and their appeal to individual people is very subjective. If you were the purchaser, then congratulations on checking off that box on your life list LOL... if you missed out, then it just creates an opportunity to pick up something different. Cheers from Ontario
Just happy to be here.

Good idea to get in now.
If your boy Sleepy Joe gets in he'll tax the crap out of guns like that if they're even legal in a few years.
Maybe you'll get lucky and it will be grandfathered.
Maybe we'll all get lucky and Hiden Biden will lose and disappear back into the swamp.
Eh...wot?

Whoa"..............they are actually doing something that will bring people together in one building? No way! Your going? Won't you get covid and die?
I'll sell you my pre 64 Winchester 88 in .284 for a reasonable price. It will increase in value.

Since I was in high school, I've wanted a Belgian-made BAR in a .300 Win Mag. That was the rifle carried by the father of a friend of mine on his various hunts Out West. (This was back in my Ohio days). I used to drool at the rifle and long to touch it, shoulder it. Over the years, as my rifle collection grew (along with my waistline), I initially went for variety as I added rifles. But in more recent years, I've been eliminating the rifles I really wasn't in love with (like a Remington 7600 in .35 Whelen) and adding new loves, which now, to me, means gorgeous wood. She-who-must-be-obeyed laid down the law recently: not another gun until I sell one. I must have looked stunned in bafflement. NO MORE GUNS? Whatever could that mean? As the answer sank in I could only ponder the bleak world ahead of me. "But guns are an investment," I pleaded to She. "A diversification from stocks and bonds." She shook her head--and that was that. She's word is law. But She can be susceptible to sweet talk. A bit. Sometimes. So I agreed to put up a rifle for sale at the big Palmer gun show this weekend. A Sig Sauer 566 SWAT Patrol--anyone with an idea what I should ask? I just wasn't made for black rifles. I think they're ugly and I can't hit much with them. My longing for a BAR was rekindled by a chance encounter with someone else's photo. I searched the internet until I found my dream. What do y'all think? A bit pricey and highfalutin' but I think I'm smitten. https://www.gunsinternational.com/g...el-bar-grade-iv-300.cfm?gun_id=101527357Jim Years ago, I owned a Winchester 101 o/u 3" mag. I traded it in on a Browning A-5 which is a nice shotgun too. I've regretted it ever since. I was really into duck hunting at the time and wanted that extra third shot. Dumb move! My secret desire is another Winchester 101. My wife has the same mindset as yours.
I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

Larry, I was hoping someone would bring this up. I'm not up on the dates either, but remember these were some seriously corroded guns under the wood line. I'm thinking that by now, most have been discovered but you never know.

.. I didn’t want it because I didn’t trust semi autos! Good move The small steel plates inside the aluminum receivers design is a recipe for disaster. The bolt rides on the steel plates but still galls the inside of the receiver and I had to repair hundreds under warranty during my gunsmithing career. If ya gave me one I’d sell it. They do appreciate in value, and certain stamped (NOT engraved) models look sharp and most folks eventually find ammo it will reliably cycle. Sorry James.

The obvious, the white stuff in the wood grain and elsewhere, maybe a wax? and the barrel looks like it's never seen oil. Most sellers would tidy up a gun like that to the max? Beautiful iron just the same. The seller assured me that's reflection from direct lighting. If not, if it's something else, the gun will go back. Jim

Beautiful wood grain, Minka.
I too zoomed in on the engraving moose and elk ...maybe it is just the particular style of the art, it is rather ...how to say...rudimentary in anatomical correctness....and more outline than interior detailing. The scrolling on either side of the animals and landscaping is nicely done ...actually much more elegant than the detailing in the animals and landscaping.
It still looks nice, it's just for me, who am a bit of a stickler for correct anatomical detailing, I keep wanting to make the bodies better and add some muscles and shading .
A good investment , Minka. Thanks, Sharon. I think the wildlife scenes are more impressionistic, like "cave art" if you will. I realize they could be better, more detailed, but after all this is a Grade IV, not V, BAR. Here's a Grade V, for comparison: https://www.gunsinternational.com/g...n-like-new-belgium.cfm?gun_id=101525929.I love the elegant gold engravings and wood stock, but it's more than I'm willing..er...allowed to spend. I still like the engravings and wood.
Allan, I'm a bolt and single-shot rifle fan myself. But I still want one semi-auto shotgun.
Jim If you like it that's all that matters !! However that bottom jaw on the cow moose is wayyyyyyyyy too concave. We know that the jawbone on a moose is straight. The cow elk looks more like a sheep in the head area and the posture of the head. Are we sure this is real engraving ?? Or is it stamped ? EDIT: Here's an idea. Maybe Miss Sharon can re-engrave this gun. I'm sure her rates would be reasonable and greatly enhance the value of the piece Thanks for the remarks, Ken. My understanding it's a real engraving done by a real Belgian. Who I hope was sober. I'd love to have Sharon improve it. But her improvement would cost my heirs some of the original value, I'm afraid. Jim

How many shots do you reckon were fired through the rifles that failed? Any estimate or average you can make a guess at? My idea is to shoot this rifle a few times at the range, then retire her to the safe. My plan is to shoot it a few times at the range, then retire it to the safe, where it will become one of the stars. Jim
