Curious how folks are maneuvering with the election so close.

I've been in a holding pattern for the last 3 months or so. After the election, I'm thinking the markets will take a significant dip. If I'm right I'll have cash on hand to buy up on a discount.

I'm bullish on the market considering a highly probable Trump victory. Maybe a hiccup at first as the left immolates themselves in the aftermath but once they're dealt with its on to making things even greater again.

I think the resolution of Covid will affect the market more than the election, certainly in the short term. There is a lot of money on the sidelines right now and not many places it can go.

I am a newbie but currently over 50% cash. Watching Tyson (tsn) for a potential beatdown as they look to settle their price fixing scam. Not much excites me right now but I have been far to busy to do much research.

I have been thinking about pulling some money out and paying off a house I'm selling on contract. Insted of them making the payments and money going to the bank they will be paying me @7% fairly good stable return and avoid a possibility crash losses.

On the other hand I could cash out and invest in sewing machines and tanning equipment so when my plant gets shut down if the Democrats get in due to their environmental policies I will have the time to learn how to sew and tan fur. Once I developed a market I won't wast time trapping I will just buy all the $5 fur and profit untill my trend setting fur bring back high fur prices. We will all win.

I suspect the market is going to be unsettled until January. Regardless of the voting on Nov 3.the election will be contested right up to inauguration on January 20.

Wall Street big money is betting on and hoping for a Biden victory.

If you can't sleep well with the volatility then you need to hedge or get out. Alternatively, you can ignore it and just ride the ups & downs.

I agree with Corky that a vaccine will make a bigger difference in the long run. But the short run could get bumpy.

If Biden is inaugurated ( as opposed to winning) remember the plans he has for corporate taxes and capital gains taxes. Those two things alone will have a huge negative impact on the market.

If the Dems sweep and before they take over there will be a market sell off to avoid the Biden tax plan.

Asked a similar question to a broker once. He answered me “If I knew those answers in advance, I wouldn’t be working for this company, I would have my own company”.

I don’t play with stocks. I buy mutual funds based on their 30 year track record, and leave em alone. So far I have averaged about 10.5% rate of return. It’s not super great returns but it’s steady. I have two accounts, and if I add nothing to the bigger one, and leave it where it is, assuming the same returns I’ve been getting since I started it 6 years ago will continue, I’ll have $1,038,707.00 in that one account, and I figure that’s good enough returns for me. Obviously I’m not going to stop contributing, but I’m pretty comfortable I’ll retire well off no matter what happens with the markets this election.

I feel the market has factored in a Biden victory and know that things will be quite normal for them without all the anxiety and angst of the last few years. The market enjoys some stability and the market has done well with Dem administrations in the past. If the senate flips that may be a concerning issue, but tax reforms are down the road a few years for sure. I also agree that resolving the virus will impact the market more. If we are going the modified unspoken herd immunity route this will take time and thus UE will remain quite high by recent standards and without influxes of government cash the economy will stay pretty stagnant for the near future. That however does not seem to cause the market as much concern as many companies can make more profits selling less with less labor and charging more per unit or item. The hospitality and travel industries will continue to bear the brunt of the economic downturns. If the world continues to have issues then markets for commodities and higher tech manufacturing items will decline and that will impact the economy as well.
We need a vaccine that will remove the fears so that the bulk of the people will move forward. If the vaccines are as effective as the flu vaccines that is 30-50% and those of us with health concerns will just hunker down even more and ride it out the best we can. Great way to save money however.

Bryce
