That's a rather indelicate way of saying someone put the wood to him on that deal. I had a Belgian BAR in .308 quite a few years ago. The factory sights were so low I couldn't squeeze my face into the stock to draw a bead with the thing. It was/is considered by many to be the quintessential deer rifle for the Maine woods.

Jim if it makes you happy you should buy it.

I am not into safe queens but some one should be it would be a boring world if every one was me

no really it would be very boring , wouldn't have covid , wouldn't need jails ,everyone would have a years ammo , entire industries just would cease to exist.although golf courses would make some awesome 3 gun ranges.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I compared the rifle to this one, https://www.gunsinternational.com/g...00-win-mag-grade-iv.cfm?gun_id=101527648 , before I bought. The stock isn't quite as nice on this one, imho.

When I was 15 yrs old and out hunting in Wyoming ...I was back at Camp 4 miles into the sage and cactus waiting for my Dad to make lunch.

Towards the River and Landiks Ranch house I Saw What I thought was Someone using a mirror to signal. It was over 3 miles away when I first saw the hunter. I Sat on a truck hood and watched with binoculars for over an hour fascinated. It turned out to be my Father hunting his way back to camp. The flashing turned out to be my Dads Gloss Stock on his 742 jam-0-matic .243.

I vowed never to own a Glissy shiny rifle. I thought back then that Dad scared every Buck ahead of him.

330, I don't like gloss stocks either. The BAR I just bought has a matte finish.

Run, the credit isn't due me. It's a nice rifle. All I did was work hard for half a century and save some of the money I earned, so that I can now indulge myself with a toy...I mean, investment, now and then.

I had one in 308 for awhile. Superbly accurate rifle. Took a few caribou with it. I used to use the same argument W17 is, in regards to semi auto and dangerous game, but the fact is military men the world over have been relying on them for decades in far more perilous environments than any hunter will ever face. Still, a semi auto wouldn't be my first choice. A mauser 98 clone is the action to beat when big mean animas are on the menu

True, Ken. Give me a bolt gun. Or even a reliable single shot with an ejector (as opposed to just an extractor.

Double rifles don't do much for me, but are deadly in some hands.

Minka, I have a wee bit of interesting things in the categories of carvings on rifle receivers....where your rifle's art fits ...the difference between "European old school ", ( properly termed renaissance art ) , Folk art era, your very aptly called "cave art", and what you described that you love , flowing anatomical correct technical style....as I love too. Simply for interest’s sake, as I have known you appreciate details in history .

Found a couple neat things...too late for me to post now but I will tomorrow.

Above anything, for me, the art of amazing depth of grain wood is really, "all that " in my book . Your rifle surely has that . Sounds like you will love this one as much as I do the tiger eye and flame Aurora shifting depth of my Weatherby's wood as well.

I think a bull moose can be almost as dangerous as a brown bear. I still won't use a smi-auto. A bull in rut is still dangerous game.................as is a cow in February
