Got a little gun build I'm doing and I really want a certain look for the gun. Main thing I want is one of those long target varmint style scopes. You could used to find one fairly cheaply from BSA but seems everyone has moved over to the more compact tactical style scopes. Considering the barska or tasco target varmints due to the price (it's a .22lr fun gun so it dosent need to have the best tracking or anything) it I've heard alot of mixed reviews on barska and t agave a tasco target varmint already I just don't like the way the SO is set up Anyone have any suggestions for a scope model that would fit the look I'm wanting ?

Wolfie, scopes tend to get larger as their magnification increases. Look for scopes with magnification up to 24x or so, and you've found a big scope.
Of course, as power and size go up, so tends to go price.
For a while you could find good deals on the old line of Leupold V-3 scopes, as they came out with their new line. Don't know if there are any left.

Vortex crossfire is an awesome scope for the money. Athlon is not too shabby either
If it makes a track on this earth , I can catch it.

Looks to me aren’t as important as function. Big higher power scopes without parallax adjustments are generally set at the factory to be free of parallax from 100 to 150 yards. Why this is important is because the scopes focus is also effected at ranges that are significantly different from the parallax setting. To see the effects of this look at a target of known range through a scopes with parallax adjustment and run the adjustment through its range and observe the focus of the target. So the range a non adjustable scope begins to be sharp and in focus will be at the range your rimfire begins to be ineffective due to accuracy potential. If you’re set on a big target/varmit scope make sure it has parallax adjustment so you can crank it down to reasonable rimfire ranges. And be prepared to pay more.

Get on Ebay and get one that you like the looks of (probably a used one ) I hear the older BSA Jap ones were OK .Its a 22 so you are not going Musk Ox hunting in the Northwest Territories .Probably less than $100. The only failures I have experienced are Simmons .Hope you get the right look if you do you will pack it .

Weaver V24 A/O Fine duplex should be about $300. But the parallax adjustment is on the objective bell. I have one I bought at a gun show for $250 I use it for accuracy verification on “projects “ Also have a BSA sweet 223 that fits your parameters A/O also up front, works well on prairie poodles out to 300 or so. I think I gave $130 for it. Can’t vouch for durability as I haven’t shot that particular rifle that much. The weaver is bullit proof up to 300RUM and 7WSM in a six pound rifle that was a viscous kicker. Good luck with the quest.
