No semi's with 100 shot magazines back in those days-all hunting rifles.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Correct, shooting is a sport today outside of just hunting.

Wish some of my family elders would have latched onto 1 or 2 of those 99s!

Yep. some automatic shotguns but all hunting rifles - which were patterned after the lever-action and bolt action repeating rifles originally developed for military use.

Of course, what is a "hunting rifle" other than any rifle you hunt with?

What from Christ that soul can sever,
Bound by everlasting bands?
None shall take thee
From the Strength of Israel's hands.

Love those prices. I once found some old 1934 Field and Stream magazines and some of the prices in the ads were pretty incredible. Of course the dollar was worth so much more back then. I recall the model 94 Winchester was $27.00 in one of the ads. With the good fur prices then it would not take many mink to get yourself a new rifle.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

if you consult the US currency calculator 1961 to 2020 you realize these guns are selling for the same ore less money today

134 dollar M70 win in 1961 = 1161.00 today

89 dollar Marlin 336 = 705.00

39 dollar 1903 34900

so the surplus guns are much higher now

the savage 110 is a steal by comparison to it's 1961 price

money today is just worth less

now just ordering and mailing off a check and the post man bring your rifle in a couple weeks would be very nice

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I got ripped off! I have paid over $1000 for a used rifle and it was only $135 new.

I have nothing clever to put here.

My Dad talked about a boy getting a .22 rifle for Christmas from his parents at a country school Christmas gathering. About 1930s. Imagine trying that today!
