Anybody use anything like the white pages app. I use on x and it provides the tax address and I can sometimes find a phone number on white pages or linkedin but other times it wants me to pay to see the number. If the land owner lives on the property or near by I definitely stop and try to meet them in person but there are quite a few absentee or out of state owners around me.

On x is what I use. It can be frustrating trying to track down landowners, especially when the land is technically owned by an llc or trust

Tell me about it! I'm mostly looking at places to coon and squirrel hunt right now so there are some places that are really good if I can get the adjoining property. I've got some trusts and llc's around that would be awesome but just about impossible to get ahold of.

I’m just glad I don’t have to deal with it anymore. Moved back to Nevada this spring. More BLM land than I have time or traps for. Out here I can drive all day and be on public land the whole time

As far as contacting the land owner, and this may be a shock,
try the US Postal Service and a 50 cent stamp.

No, don’t think any app can do that legally. Just address and property info.

I use a Plat book. They go by county. It shows who owns what and has their name, address and phone number. It helps, but so do neighbors. I often get cell numbers and learn schedules from them. The more you do it the easier it gets.

I go to the Township office to get the information I need. I also look at the tax role.

Well seeing as there are no tree squirrels within 150 miles of me, yeah it is pretty tough lol. Now if you want to hunt ground squirrels, prairie dogs, or jackrabbits it’s non-stop hot barrel action

This is how I do it. I use the County’s online Plat Map or GIS to identify landowners.

Then I’ll virtually scout the property via online maps or a USGS quad if I have on of the area. It saves a lot of legwork.

Dont overlook just googling the person and browsing through the results. Most people have kept the same cell number for years and it just ends up on websites for whatever reason sometimes.

I'll occasionally get actual letters from people wanting to hunt. I always respond, with a letter, and it's usually a positive response.

I guess semi-related to this is if you do find the landowner, what benefit is it to them to allow you access to their property? I ask, as a few years back, I was working with some folks selling a piece of land that had fur on it in abundance. Young trapper got my phone number and called asking for permission. I saw no harm, but when I passed his request on to the owners, I got the question.......what benefit is it to us to allow this person on the property? They saw it as potential liability with no benefit to them, so said no.

I would imagine that would be the case with most turn downs. On the other hand, I can imagine a whole host of other landowners who would welcome the idea of a trapper to come in to thin out problem varmints. The question is how to coordinate it so these two find each other.

Most county plat books cost from say $25 to $50 to purchase. Get the most updated one and start looking for land owners that may be on a line you want to develop and plan it out. Many land owners today are absentee or in trust or LLPs, and LLCs etc. Around my area deer hunting is the major reason permissions are harder to get and keep. With active farmers getting closer into the farmstead and doing ADC is becoming easier and one then needs to have the equipment and gear to operate in those types of areas. Golf courses etc. similar. Most farmers don't trap but know the fur prices are very low as they tend to move somewhat with commodity prices. Hanging our traps up just encourages land owners to become more independent about controlling animals that meets their needs.
