No primers doesn't explain no .22 shells. smile

You guys should be used to this by now. For my entire life, every time the presidential election comes around, there’s an ammo “shortage”. If the democrat is elected it means six more months of ammo shortage. If the republican wins it means early end to the ammo shortage.

You can find about any ammo if you are willing to pay the price. 2 boxes of 9mm 115 gr FMJ go for $100 on an auction. Plus they were going to pay sales tax and 18% convenience fee. I never figured who that was a convenience for, but its not the buyer. Ammo does not go bad and comes in case lots. Its just not the time to buy them.

My neighbor just came into possession of 6,000 small pistol primers. He was kind enough to give me 1,000 for helping him build a 6" step on the front of his house. After that, he went to our local Scheels store and they had some primers in stock there. Of course, he bought them all, even though the limit was 2-100 ct boxes. Apparently, the limit memo was not shared with the checkout clerks. Anyway, I will not be running out of ammo anytime soon. smile

I was at the rifle range this week end. There was two guys with there boys. They were shooting 22 LR AR's used up a lot of ammo.
I have heard a lot of guy's have AR's that shoot 22LR. They were just plunking have fun. If that is the case I can see a hole lot of 22 LR going down range now days, much more than a few years ago. JMO

Buying anything I like to shoot 1 box at a time has never really worked out for me and my goals.

If I only buy 1 box I am testing it out LOL

Also a 303 British is a very capable deer rifle. There are a lot of them around just most don't use them anymore. Ammo is a bit pricey and not plentiful. They were very popular after WW2 as surplus military rifles. Canada has a lot of them and from what I understand are more popular up there.

Anybody know the reason for the shortage????

Several reasons for the shortage. First was panic buying when Covid hit the shores, then five million new gun owners because of Covid and more importantly the riots and defund the police movements. Factor in production is down due to covid staffing shortages and maybe the biggest kicker of all, a shortage of key ingredients because of supply chain problems from China because of covid.'

Hopefully we learn from this and bring back essential manufacturing but I doubt it.

if you wonder , you should read , listen to or watch the reports from people on the ground.

people need to hear what the MSM isn't telling people

how organized , armed and equipped rioters where.

how helpless the police were

how there were no police , fire or ambulances coming if you had an issue.

police cars being burned in front of the officers that had been driving them

how politicians and MSM just made excuses for how the rioters , arsonists and looters were mostly peacful and justified in their actions.while screaming how awful the police are and de-funding the police.

once you have a little shortage it gets people thinking I need to buy before it's out these other people must be on to an idea

then the shortage snow balls

in march it was .355 and .357 self defense bullets were drying up online

in April 9mm handguns , 9mm self defence ammo ARs , pistol caliber carbines

May shotguns , short barrel low cost pump guns

this continued into June

cities burning anything 223 , 308 , lever guns semi auto

the 5 million new gun owners was an estimate in August could be 6 or 7 by now
August saw reloading components anything Small pistol , small rifle , by September even large pistol and large rifle were dried up a few magnum rifle and handgun primers left in stores , nothing online.

October hunting ammo starts to dry up

I watched farm and fleet put out a case of 9mm fmj and in 10 minutes with a 2 box limit it was gone

I roll my own for everything but rimfire. I keep a good stock of all components just for this reason. I am currently building a 300 PRC and bought brass (have everything else) before I even ordered the barrel and head space gauges learned that lesson a long time ago.

it all depends if they have a sporting goods manager who brings in reloading supplies

the managers get a certain amount of freedom to bring in things from their suppliers , some stores just get the base order

all depends who the sporting-goods manager is or if the store even has one.

You think the manufactures are the ones behind the high prices? I bet the middle man is the one doing the gouging.

I work pt for Field & Stream. I was never out during the 22 shortage. I had always bought at least a box of whatever whenever something was on sale whether needing it or not. Always used a coupon during the sale also. You simply can't buy when you need it during the last few yrs. Plenty for my lifetime & my kids lifetime. I buy ammo like some guys drink beer.
