2021 Wild Fur Market Update

All of us will be grateful to have the year 2020 in the rear view mirror. The events that have taken place in
the past year impacting our industry have been epic. The fall of NAFA and the COVID-19 outbreak were two
enormous events that took everyone by surprise. The wild fur industry was deeply impacted by these events,
but not nearly as damaged as the ranch mink industry has been. As of now, millions of mink in Europe have
been killed and destroyed as countless farms have been infected with COVID-19. It seems ranch mink are very
susceptible to the virus. As well, several farms in the United States have tested positive also. In Denmark the
numbers of mink being destroyed are in the millions. When the dust settles the global production of ranch mink
is likely to be around 15 million. This is a far cry from the 100 million being produced just a couple of years
ago.

We have done our best to sell and get our trappers paid, and to get product to those needing it and this has been
a challenge. However, things are picking up as China over the past month has really improved. Internet sales
in China of fur garments and fur accessories are at all time record levels. As well, sales at retail shops in China
have also picked up. At this moment long haired goods such as coyotes and foxes are doing the best, but there
is also strong interest in muskrats. We expect heavy coon in the better sections and bigger sizes to start moving
also.

We are optimistic that with winter approaching Korea will start to ramp up as well and items such as sables and
lynx cats will be in demand.
Here in North America wolves, wolverine and quality bears will once again sell strongly. Beaver will sell and
the fact that Fur Harvesters Auction is selling castoreum at the highest levels in history helps. These price levels
are expected to continue for 2021 as beaver production has been down.

All other items of wild fur will start to move once travel restrictions are lifted, allowing global travel to resume.
Here in Canada, rapid testing is going to be implemented before the yearend resulting in travelers testing
negative being allowed in without needing to quarantine the mandatory 14 days.
Wild fur is witnessing a far faster recovery than the ranch fur industry. Wild fur populations are not being
impacted by the COVID-19 virus at all.

Over the past year we have secured a great deal of additional warehousing equipment from NAFA, as well as a
few key former employees and a warehouse in Winnipeg. We are on solid ground and are well prepared for the
future and view it positively knowing that things are going to get better.
This past year has been a test to all of us and as trappers we have weathered the storm far better than most in the
world. This has been just another obstacle to conquer and like all the others before we are stronger because of it.

Respectfully,
Mark Downey
Chief Executive Officer

Anyone know if these pelts where dumped on the market as well? The news articles do not mention it one way or the other.

It all sounds good. But IF things happen Is the big question. And things may be moving but at what PRICE LEVELS.

Red fox have been In the toilet as to price for years. I don't foresee any price change In fox. And I wouldn't hold my breath when It comes to the coon market.
And the coyote market Is already down about 30% from what what It was just a few months ago.

But It's a long ways till March so you never know how It will play out.

Great to hear some encouraging news about the wild fur market. Hate to hear about the ranch mink industry, but maybe the otter market will now improve.

There you have it, the beginning of a major fur boom. Get out there and trap, trap, trap.

Why is the Canadian or Ontarian government so slow to figure out you can test travelers for covid? They have been doing it here since July/August.

Exactly! If I had a few dozen foreign travelers who were going to drop some combined 6 or low 7 figure amounts of cash in my state or country, my governor would have been working the phones long before August to get them in country. Either the federal and provincial (Ontario) officials are too worthless in getting this done or baby boy Trudeau is playing multiple sides of his mouth, showing his tree-hugger supporters he's defacto against fur while using covid as a cover. Maybe both!

Believe it or not the government organization that approves drugs and tests has not approved a rapid COVID test yet. Think once these are approved and travelers can be tested at point of entry things will change. There are still provinces within Canada that will not allow other Canadians to enter without a 14 day quarantine nevermind from overseas.

That letter sounds optimistic and it's nice to hear some positive news, but is it an accurate reflection of where the market may go or is it a positive spin on a still-bad situation? This is only my second season trapping and I haven't sold fur before, so I don't have any skin in the game yet.

How many of you will ship to FHA this season?

Positive spin. Normal. They need some product to stay in business. Not shipping. No sense in piling more pelts on top of the old pelts still there from 3 years ago.

I won’t sell anything but coyotes at FHA because there is a state auction 2 hours from me, and many of the buyers there come to that particular sale just for the high dollar bobcat that are known to come from my area. They are there with their checkbooks out because they know that these cats are going to cost if they want them. They also know that a large amount of kit fox will be there. In my opinion that’s the best place to sell those two items. It’s a toss up on the coyotes though, may be better off sending them to FHA.

Depends how poor country prices are on coon, if not even $5 a coon, I consider it , no advances is why I never did in past. Nafa was around until year ago, much bigger company

Apparently a more poorly run company as well.

IMO it’s a Positive spin to get trappers to keep shipping. I won’t be shipping, and will only set for Marten this fall, and in NY we are limited to 6 per season.

I don’t know about a boom, especially a major one on fur as a whole, maybe just a boom on some certain animals like mink, otter, bear, wolf.

I was thinking more like muskrats, beavers, coyotes and mink.
