Looking to do more water trapping this year
I have a pile of MB 650 offset laminated traps I normally use for bobcats and coyotes wondering if these would work for otters on a drowning rig

Might but I prefer a very thin jawed trap for otter.

Caught one on an MB 650 offset once. Held onto it until I got there alright but slipped out just as I approached. Don't think I will use an off set on them anymore.

Offset has never been a problem but an otter has a tapered foot and wide gripping surfaces just don’t get a good grip.

An offset 650 will break your heart eaven on a drowner . The offset and the wide smooth rounded jaws are working against you on holding that smooth tappered foot

I have caught them in my Duke #3s but most were in the 1 1/2(#3 springs) on a drag. Of course we have to release them here in this part of Pa and that is always fun. To me they are by far the hardest critter to release. And I have released way over 15 and probably 20 by now. They like beaver castor and fish(set for coon)......jk
