Mine are older (10, 13), but we are a DIY bunch, so we build things like sifters, hammers, trowels, etc. I'm getting them some DPs, and they have a couple 1.5 cs... mainly stuff for coon, to peak their interest.

each a .22lr, dozen 1.5 cs, dozen DPs, bait, lure, sifter, maybe a groundhog 3- in-1 tool, stakes, kneepads, tote bags to carry everything, Polaris ranger, and a trapline dog. do that for each kid they will be set.
Trapping is what built North America, why take that away?

I vote pack basket and knee boots. I made this one out of a cheap garbage can and a set of suspenders split for the straps. Made two for like 15 bucks. The boys loved them. One trap in each and a walking stick completes the look and a muskrat in them on day two makes happy kids. Good luck with the kids on the line make sure to have snacks. Lol
