Cages. I got my kids some when they were young and they loved trapping with them. Easy to set, no big stiff springs, and opens up a whole world for them.

Buy them some snares and then teach them how to snare, too. My kids were catching some whopper beaver with snares. Learned how to dig channels from the water edge up the bank and hung a snare with some beaver lure beyond the snare. Again no stiff springs, easy to set.

And lastly, get them hammers and trowels and let them make coyote sets. Its pounding, its digging, its dirt, and its stinky lure and bait. What kid doesn't love that? After they start catching a few...viola! Instant partners!

And make the trip fun, too. Stop and have a picnic lunch. Kids love trapping just make it easy and fun for them. take them as often as you can, too. Let them grow up trapping as a big part of their lives. My kids used to sit in backseat of the truck with headlamps working on homework when we checked traps. Just make it fun and part of their lives, be a teacher and a good dad!

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

My idea or this I started out with cages in the yard super easy to set and bait but it's kind of expensive. You can buy a raccoon size cage trap at tractor supply for like 15 bucks.

I give my kid some ol No 1 LS and he cleaned out the rats from the barn. He was stooked so that fall I showed him where to set a few buckets and a snare or two. In hindsight I gave him my best spots and he wiped up on me for a couple checks LOL

Snares would probably do good too if you do any snaring. Light and easy to carry easy to set and you can catch far more than coon.

cheap waders off amazon, decent quality. dp's, get a bucket and keep adding to it over time, gear for canine sets, Weld a cheap trap so it cant fire, and let them practice setting dirt holes in the yard.

You catch on purdy quick for a guy from Mississippi grin- I wanted him to have an ounce an ounce of respect b4 I hooked him up with the bucket brigade. He is your age now Wolfie, and like you he loves to invent, fab, and weld new stuff up.
