I had to enlist the help of a trained recovery dog to find a buck i shot the other day. Truly amazing the ability of some dogs noses. 25 hour old trail. Other deer walking over trail after the shot and the next day. Dog picked up trail at site of hit worked it at the speed of my normal walk for first 150 yds, then deer must have milled around a small area because dog took about 45 seconds to line the trail out. From that point on it was dog dragging us along as fast as we could walk for the next 200 yds to the deer. Learned they trail by a pheromone released by deer that is wounded seriously. Not a drop of blood our eyes could find until we got to deer. The are worth the $ if you want to find a dead deer. Would have never found the deer without the dog. Took the dog about 4 minutes on a 25 hour old trail. [Linked Image]

Impressive deer and great recovery. I've heard of those dogs doing some amazing things.

150 within a hundred miles. $1.50 a mile over that. And a tip if your happy about their work. He said the guys paying thousands for a hunt tip really well. First guy I call was so busy he said he'd be to my place at 3 am. I called him at 8 am.

good dog and congrats on a nice buck and recovery. not tryin to be a jerk but sounds like theres a lot of "hunters" who need to work on marksmanship if theres that much need for tracking dogs. Dont get me wrong id call one too if i thought it would help.

Nope it was in the 70s that day. He was getting a little tight already. Cut off about 40 pounds of meat to be worked up for bait.

I think your right about that and their tracking skills also. I had very high lung entry and about six inches up exit though rib cage (double lung) but it didnt exit skin so no blood. Too many people taking 60 yd plus shots too. And I can tell you the trackers are not fans of expandable broad heads.
