Most of you are youngsters. I remember growing up in the Sixties.
I remember giving a stump speech (literally looking around town to find a stump, since we thought that was required) as JFK, while my friend played Nixon. I forget who won the speechifying contest so far as the other kids were concerned, but I do remember who won that election.
My friend was devastated for several days and in denial for a while, but eventually he accepted JFK's win.

I was a squirrel back in and just outta high school. 18 in 65, and remember all the stupid stuff we thought was important back then! 64 I built a 55 chevy with a 60 over 283, single four barrel, wcfb. Terrorized the streets with that car! Then I built a 57 chevy wagon with a 425 hp 396, and futher terrorized the streets. Back in those days, everybody cruzed the main drags, with sometimes getting a little action off a street light! World is sure different today. The kids nowdays drive like grandma did back then, but we learned what our cars would do and how to control them. Not so now, if a kid gets in a slide or out of control, he is toast! We tried everything and anything back then...it was car culture, we lived and breathed it!
Lee working on cars and racing them was just part of what we did. Sleepers were what we drove. No money to make it look good, but man they could run. and your right we learned how to drive. race cars work hunt and trap. Take our guns to school so we could go hunting before we went to a part-time job. we carried pock knives and talked freely about hunting trapping. time have changed

Yep Jonesie, I was buying guns at the pawn shop on the way to and from school. Buy a 22 one day, and a couple days later, after I refinished the stock and cold blued it, sell it back to them. Carry a gun down the school halls to my locker, and take it to woodwork class and redo the stock. Nobody give a second glance. We had more freedom back then than we knew what to do with!
That's how free Merica used to be, and it sure sucks today by comparison.
YOU CAN IGNORE REALITY, BUT YOU CANNOT IGNORE THE CONSEQUENCES OF IGNORING REALITY.
Born in 58, agree with all that's said above. You know, it really doesn't matter who won this last election, we are never going to get those days back again. It's really sad the present and future kids will never know what we had.

Every boy I knew would have robbed a bank to ride along with Ann and Nancy Wilson = Heart back in the day. The ladies are still singing too and sounded good.
Turned 18 in 1966. Sure was no "dust on the bottle" for most of us that were older teens and younger 20s during the late 60s and early 70s, but it was still a very good time to move from adolescence into adult hood. We had very good music variety. With the draft we did not have total freedoms but then answering the call is a service I was willing to perform and in spite of the political, physical and emotional issues with all that I am glad I had the opportunity to give back regardless of what many think or feel.

So true use to go to school with a shotgun and a rifle in the back window rack of my pickup. I pray to GOD that those times can be repeated for my children.

I was 18 in 1980 grew up on the north side of Flint Mi. Our poor boy shade tree street racing hot rods were Chevys pickups. We couldn't afford all the goodies from the speed shops. But with a 11 mile strip od junkyards on the main highway, we could afford used parts. I can tell you step by step how to drop a 455 Buick big block, 455 Olds or a real low rpm high torque street burner the Cadillac 502 cu in right between the frame rails of a C 10 Chevy pickup. Thrush mufflers, Pioneer super Tuner for the radio. everything not needed to go or stop was removed. Welded up the spider gears, air shocks home made traction bars to hook the Mickey Thompsons....Break them Friday and Saturday night and piece them together for next weekend. And believe it or not some good trapping was had from a john boat on the Flint river...
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!
