If you were going for coyotes on state land that had a moderate to low risk of theft what trap would you use? I’ve used mb550s and haven’t had anything stolen yet but if there was a cheaper trap I would sleep easier. For instance I’ve thought about the bridger 1.75, I’ve caught a coyote in those and they held the yote but destroyed the trap BUT the coyote came home with me and cost about 2 bucks to fix. Any other ideas? Duke 550?

Bridger # 2's

The Sleepy Creek 1.75 coil (is really a #2), and tough, middle of the road trap.....Think about using a slide cable to get your catch behind screening cover, and out of sight.

1.75 or #2 Duke will work just fine for higher theft areas. Bubble weld the jaw tips and the j-hooks and they will hold up just fine. The off-set jaws are a little more ridged and easier on the foot of a non-target like a hunting dog... Unlike a Bridger #2.

I've caught coyotes in my Wolf Creek 2s and 3s dogless and haven't had any issues. I'm not going to worry about 1 walking off at $8/trap either. I stick them where I won't my MB550s and Fully Modded Bridger 3s, although the monty dogless design is now my preferred style and I use them before my 550s and B3s.

Earth anchors and chain. Then if Johnny Sneakum wants it he'll have to work for it and those type of people don't want to work hard that's for sure. I'd use my 550's

I run my mb 550s with chained super stakes if I think it will be a problem. I’ve had coyotes stolen out of them more than I care to remember but very seldom are they able to get the trap pulled too. Losing a coyote sucks, but losing a coyote and a trap sucks more. If you’re real worried I’d go with duke #3s.
