When your energy producers dies you find more of the full cost that isn't being told. Wind turbine blades are being tossed into the landfill. Solar panels are not now economically recyclable either. From what I have been reading thorium salt reactors make way more sense. They can be run off the spent fuel from our other reactors. They can be made to shut down so there is no danger of a runaway. Wind and solar would be forgotten if they weren't being subsidized. alt Reactor

Trending away from fossil fuels gradually is not a bad thing, and over the period of the next few decades I think we will become less and less dependent on oil. It’s not possible to do today but it will be in the future. The technology will be developed and I think it would be a wise to provide scientists and physicists With the resources to work on it.
40 years ago if someone had told you about iPhones and all the technology we have now you’d have laughed them out of town. Now you’re doing the same to the people who say that we won’t need oil in the future. Very closed minded. Nobody is going to end oil overnight. Or even over a decade. The jobs lost will be replaced by different jobs. You don’t think electric service stations will need maintenance or construction workers? You don’t think that the power plants/solar/wind/ whatever we come up with will need laborers monitoring and maintaining them?
If you don’t think green renewable energy will be viable and efficient in the future you are a fool. Green energy as clean energy is a lie. https://www.prageru.com/video/whats...2gpGauS98Ol-wqXDZSMbFdqHlZ9NJA__bx95zs_E

In the U.S. we have 4 basic forms of reliable energy; Nuclear, Hydro, Gas and Oil, and Coal. Each one has its pros and each ones has is cons. Solar and wind are not there yet and will not be for a long time. One big problem that would solve a lot is for each person in this country to start taking personal responsibility. Recyling doesnt make you more green than the neighbor. What are you willing to give up to help with the problem . Everyone likes that house AC very cold. We like our gas guzzlers to move fast. For the life of me I dont understand why there is not a nuclear reactor on every lake large enough to support one. I believe natural gas is the cleanest as of now, but Im biased as im in the gas turbine industry. But you can forget solar and wind, just aint happening!

how many landscapes have wind turbines spoiled?
I used to be able to appreciate our "purple mountains' majesty"...now, all I see are man-made monstrosities. I see the scars of human-influence on Nature.

Since tax dollars are spent on green energy I wish hydrogen was front and center. As for eliminating fossil fuels maybe in my granddaughters life time...maybe.

top ten wind energy States"Republican Senator for Iowa Chuck Grassley is a strong supporter of the energy source, calling President Trump’s critical statements about wind energy ‘idiotic’" Wonder if Chuck has relatives/business interest in the wind turbine industry?

Future energy to harvest will be thermal from the earths magma and tidal energy.

Trump is correct to be critical of wind energy. I think Im beginning to understand why AK is turning blue..... Because Iowa ( a red State by the way ) is number 2 on the wind energy list? I bet he is big fan of ethanol( another subsidized renewable energy source). Maybe he is swamp people? Are subsidies socialist? If so, what does that make Grassley?
Who is John Galt?

If we do away with fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal), what will fire the smelters to make metal components for the green energy equipment? How do you make steel and aluminum components, copper wire, and batteries without heat generated by burning fuel? Making heat with electricity is extremely inefficient. Imagine how many hundreds of acres of solar panels or wind turbines you'd need to power one smelter Let me say this: Diversity of options is a good thing. I'm glad we have options for energy. But forcing systemic change by government fiat is unwise.

What I've heard are proposals to phase out fossil fuels by the year 2050. That's thirty years from now.

Proposals are fine. If you have the means to implement them. How much corn can be grown if farm machinery has to run on batteries or ethanol?
What will a pair of blue jeans cost if battery powered semis haul them from L.A. to Tennessee and sailing ships bring them across the Pacific? Where do the batteries come from? Material to build them is all in Afghanistan and China.
I dont think any of that will happen unless there are breakthroughs in energy production. The big question is how do we stop Venezuela and Madagascar from producing cheap goods by using fossil fuel?
I am wary of proposals that are fantasy. Just like telling people they are safer when they are unarmed , just because someone would prefer something was reality doesn't make it reality.
V.A. hospital still has a sign on the door that reads : For your protection guns knives or other weapons are not allowed.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

let the market decide if/when. This, of course, is the real answer.

Don't sweat it. You won't need to fly on airplanes. Won't need army tanks in a utopia all is peace. You won't need big tractors to farm, a hoe will suffice. You won't have any spare time to need boats , four wheelers and such. Your time will all be spent working on your counties collective farm. Unemployment will be 0%. Soylent Green, the movie comes to mind. Got to make sure them dead people vote first before they turn them into food.
