Hey, all,
I'm curious to know what you all plan to do with any fur you catch this season, what with the fur market being in such bad shape right now. Will you sell to local fur buyers, Groenewold, or FHA? Will you tan your furs and make them into craft items (fur mittens, hats, etc.)? Seems like a lot of people are going the craft item route.

Craft items for me. Mostly traditional archery related and muzzle loader related. As in fur quivers for arrows, that kind of thing?

Have the fox, coon, mink tanned. And sell the coyotes, likely to FHA

I'm gonna sell coyotes.
Most of the rest I think I'll get tanned.
I got a sort of sewing machine and maybe I'll make some things out of that. Not sure what, though.

I'm just hoping to catch something besides a cold or a case of the vapors.

A question for all of you that are tanning/dressing your fur catch this season.
What will you do with it after it is tanned? Sell the tanned pelts? Make things to sell? Other options?
The market for tanned pelts is some what limited. Would be very easy to flood the market with say, 50,000 dressed raccoon.
Plus, if you have a commercial tannery do the work, you’ve got an extra expense. Money going out before money can come in.
Just some things to think about....... I’ll be sending mine to Z&L. I’m hoping to have enough to make a bedspread or at least a good sized blanket out of. Z&L is cheap, I’m not too worried about the few hundred bucks going out if I get something I can use.

A well tanned and manufactured fur comforter will last you a lifetime. Muskrat baby blankets in the hexagonal pattern and backed with soft flannell are terriffic sellers.
