Now that Kopenhagen Fur Auction is going out of business, American Mink Exchange may make it. Or, we're seeing the end of the trade.

That's all fine and dandy, as long as the auction house doesn't lend money to mink ranchers, or trappers, or fur buyers, for that mater. That's the job of banks. I hope that they learned a lesson.

With the Danish really downsizing in the near future does give a good rebirth opportunity to a new NAFA or similar organization. In Denmark they had 1500 ranchers that formed a COOP. We may see more producer ownership with more limits on risk in the future. The number of ranch mink adding to the surplus this season will be much less for sure.

take big brass ones for any of the nafa crowd to act like they expect anyone to trust them again

Maybe wild fur will again be viewed as a luxury item, coveted and appreciated, rather than cheapend by an abundance of in-expensive, overly produced ranch fur.

That could very well be the future of wild fur, unfortunately it would require marketing and we really haven't had that in recent history.

500.00 otter in 2025!

Ranch mess has drug the fur market down, basically killed it! Maybe out of the ash's of this fiasco an actual 'stable' wild fur market will arise, hasn't been one in decades, find out after trapping season what fur is worth by then you either over produced what the market don't want or didn't go after what the market did want.

My guess is that he expects it to be a problem getting shippers that will be patient enough to wait that long for payment. Competition with the Gronewold cash in hand option.

I would imagine all the fur that has been through several years of Auctions is for sale PT at some price right up until April? Maybe not?

Any fur at FH that is unsold from previous sales is available PT, even though there may not be a published PT catalog. A phone call or email is all it takes to find out what is available.

As far as waiting until April to have the first sale, there might be some logistics involved - primarily dealing with covid. It appears that the pandemic is continuing and in some places getting worse. The Canadian border is still closed. Canadian business are limited to number of employees that can be in a building.

By waiting until April, FH might be hoping the situation is improved to the point where they can have a real live auction with buyers from all over the world there in person.

They had 2 on line auctions and 1 with Canadian buyers only. They moved goods at all of those sales but it wasn’t the same as if it were a normal sale.

Probably the OP link is the latest news and maybe most accurate, but who knows?

It appears there are several postings from FHA is to when they will have sales in 2021.

The web site says 3 sales - January, April, June.

The November press release says April and June.

The October press release says March and May.

One can assume FHA will get it figured out some time in the near future.........

I hope they set it straight soon. I've got a freezer full of beavers and a month difference in receiving dates is kinda a big deal for me.
