Finally got my archery buck Saturday evening. I had lots of exiting hunts but couldn’t seem connect with a nice buck. Luckily I ended up with the biggest one around that I know of. Two weeks ago I got out of my stand early afternoon and as soon as I was on the ground this buck started chasing four doe directly towards me. As I tried to get to my bow the doe which were only at 20 yards busted me and the buck wanted to follow them but slowly turned and walked away from me. I’ve hunted that stand every chance I’ve had since, and it finally payed off. I sat all day on Saturday and just as I was beginning to think it was over for the day I heard a grunt. I grabbed my bow and waited, but thought it sounded like the grunt of a young buck. A few minutes later he stepped out where I could see just enough of his rack to know he was a shooter. I acted like he was going to go right in front of me at 30 yards. I decided because he was close and facing me that I would stay seated and shoot sitting down. At the last second he turned and started to go behind my tree. Because he was on my right, I had to stand up and turn all the way around to get a shot, with him at only 15 yards. He gave me a great broadside 12 yard shot and I got to watch him tip over in the swamp 50 yards away! As my heart rate dropped to a normal level, I began to think about it and realized that this was the buck I had seen two weeks prior.
