Okay folks just bought a house that has electric base board heat. Looking for something else, a few things i was recommended: mini split but was wondering if one of the ductluss was made for floor not wall mount. Also thought about baseboard water or in floor water.

Few things: the basements unfinished duct work would be no issue and i could easily have space for a a furnace just unsure of the options out there

Thanks in advance!

I went to baseboard gas boiler water system. It's expensive to run copper water lines through the house but in my opinion the cheapest way I've ever heated one besides a wood stove. Would still use wood but a back injury made me make the move to baseboard gas boiler

That’s a good question, in these times it’s hard to guess what’s going to be the cheapest and most efficient way to heat your home. With all the going green stuff i have a feeling everything is gonna get more expensive.

I run a outdoor wood boiler lots of work but I heat the house and the fur shed off of it, on nicer days just the radiant heat from it heats the house no fan needed. Now at $1.10 for LP it’s no biggie but when it jumps up it’s a money saver.

Don't run copper! Do it in PEX, cheaper and will last next to forever. Talking from experience!

Why use copper pex pipe would be a better option and no worry about connections breaking also faster to plumb with and I think it might be cheaper.

I put mini splits in our new house. We love em, but the heat pump is only efficient down to 10 degrees or so. We put a pellet stove in to help out on the really cold days. My electric bills are cheap. I don't know about having a floor unit, we've got 3 wall units and one in the ceiling

I have forced air propane and an outdoor wood burner.
We don't use $200 in propane a year probably.
Wood is some work and the propane is a good backup system.
With the forced air you can have air conditioning also.

I bought a house that had baseboard electric as its only heating source. I ran an outdoor boiler for over 30 years with ductwork and forced air. Now, I have a propane furnace with forced air heat since I already had the ductwork in place. If I had to do it all over again, I would use baseboard hot water heat heated by a gas boiler.

hot water with pex they can secure it under the sub floor in the unfinished basement and insulate it so it radiates up more than down

the split system is great for AC and good for what we would call shoulder season oct nov march april

water heat is not as good if you leave the home for long periods of time in the winter and need to winterize the house it is more work every time

split system and hot water don't suck the moisture out of the air in the winter like forced air does , if you do forced air you need to run a humidifier also

One important question is do you want or need ac. If you go with hot water heat then you still need a split unit for ac or a window shaker. The cheapest will be forced air heat with central air.
