What is one or two pieces of gear YOU find the most crucial to success on the line?

Here’s a list of everything that I have in my pack anytime I go setting:
Sifter. This is non negotiable on a land line
Hammer. Ground hog hammers are great for digging trap beds
Pliers. Heavy duty lineman pliers and needle nose
File. Essential if you need to clean up dog/pan notch from wax or burrs
Pan covers. Again, non negotiable on a land line. Use a safety pin to keep them organized.
Flake type antifreeze
Yellow flagging for marking sets.

If I’m going to be using super stakes, a driver, and if I’m going to be using clog drags, triple twisted baling wire for attaching traps to drags.

In a separate tool bag are all my baits and lures. In this bag you’ll want to keep a butter knife for applying bait and lure.

In the bed of the truck, a shovel for digging if you get stuck, an axe and/or saw for clearing brush.

That’s a good start. As you gain experience you’ll fine tune your tools and equipment to fit your style.

I use one o f these for a hammer https://www.amazon.com/Estwing-Framing-Hammer-Straight-Reduction/dp/B0000224V7 That 28 ounce estwing will outlast any homeshop built trapping hammer I have used. Dig beds and pull stakes with the claws. Pound anything you need to with the hammer.

Also in my bag is urine, bait a couple lures, bait hole shovel, a small roll of #9 wire, 3-4 snares, spare tags, a roll of tie wire, small file, pan bolt wrench, pliers, a flattened cut in half roll of wax paper for pan covers, dirt sifter, carton of table salt. when I get out of my pickup to set a location I grab two traps, 4 rebar stakes or two drags or two stakes and one drag. Stick them in the bag. Depending on weather I may grab a gallon bucket of dry dirt. Filling it as needs be from the five gallon buckets of dry dirt in my pickup. Read some of the old urine threads on here before you buy any. A lot of worthless junk out there being sold as animal urine.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
