It was given to me a while back and I can make out a “1” on the pan so I know the size. But the thing is the spring is probably 1 - 1.5” shorter than a newer #1. But it is a STOUT little sucker! Is this normal trap or do I have a gem lol? I appreciate any help

Just an ordinary user. Sorry.

There are a few trappers that prefer the short spring model, especially in certain places. I’ve been able to get an extra 50 cents per trap, if I can find the right buyer. But that was a few years back when fur prices were better.

Others have dealt with value. I will give a bit of info on when and why. The short wide spring Victor traps were manufactured during WWII for a brief period. Some say it was an effort to save steel which was in short supply at the time. Many #1 traps were made and they are not collectible unless in new unused condition. A very few #0 and #2 traps were made and both are quite collectible, especially the 0s.

Cohunt, you mentioned number 0's with short spring are quite collectible, how much do they go for and how much shorter is the spring?

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.
