I shot this monster buck yesterday morning at 11:07AM! It was finally an awesome day in the treestand. Saw 7 Doe’s and 6 bucks. This was the 6th one!
I haven’t seen much rut activity this year. Only a couple spikes and 2 pointers getting excited.

This is the first time I’ve ever weighed a deer. He weighed 182lbs after gutting.

Heard this buck crashing in the bush behind me and I first thought it was a buck chasing a Doe. Then I thought maybe it was 2 bucks fighting. Then I figured it was a buck rubbing or making a scrape.

I saw him coming through the bush and I thought PERFECT! He came in and made a scrape at 35 yards from me. He walked a bit closer and I pulled the trigger, CLICK!!! What the!!! Misfire!! Like c’mon cry

How in the world am I going to chamber another shell with this buck 30 yards away and dead calm quiet!? As fast as I can!! That’s how!! To my amazement he was barely bothered by the sound of metal smashing together and a shell playing plinko down the jack pine tree behind me lol.
Put the crosshairs on him, said a few quick nasty words to my gun and fired my shot!

Watched him crash through the deadfall and cringed hoping he wouldn’t bust his massive rack! Down he went 30 yards away!
Yes! I knew I had that good feeling!

Thanks for looking!

Love you guys!

Very nice deer. Great hunt. Any idea what caused the misfire?

Yes, this gun (savage axis 25.06) has not fired very well since the day I bought it. Read reviews that many people have a problem with the firing pin not hitting deep enough. I cleaned it all and hoped it would help, but nope.
17 out of 20 Remington core lokt shells wouldn’t fire. Bought Barnes brand and 18 or 19 out of 20 shells fired.

So I’ve been shooting these for 3 years, and I keep telling myself to bring the gun to a gunsmith to have the firing pin adjusted. I’ll try to do it this winter!

One of my farm students at our Tech College took 3 guided tours to Sask for whitetails. He scored 3 really impressive bucks. All were 8 pointers with heavy racks but not real wide or tall. They were all in that 135-145 range but the smallest one weighed 196 the other two were over 200 with the bigger on about 230 lbs. Really impressive bucks.

I'd send it in to Savage...they should give you a shipping label.

this looks to be a fairly common issue in Axis rifles especially the earlier ones and not really addressed by Savage.

https://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?64742-Firing-pin-spring-upgrade

a small washer seems to be the best answer these guys have come up with.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
