I hate em, I hate em, I hate em!

Nothing like getting to a great looking location on the edge of some ag, laying out your equipment and then kneeling right in a patch of Goat Heads. It can flat out ruin your day.

My question is do Coyotes shy away from them. I see tracks and scat near them, but they must hate them also. They are everywhere in this country.

I actually just tested this same idea!! I set a DH in our farm ground I used a patch of goatheads as the backing on the DH, raked the front clean of burs. Had zero action at that set and caught yotes in both sets on either side of it ( 100 yds away ). Is it just that set???? Is it the goatheads????? But its not productive. If I can help it I do not make sets in a patch of sandburs mostly because I dont want a coyote full of them, goat heads dont stick in fur as bad as regular sandburs though, they just suck to step on or kneel on.

Made the mistake of trying to crawl through a bunch of sand burs once stalk a deer. I was within a hundred yds and it was my only option. I paid a high price for it. Lol

Goat heads are the work of Satan himself. I’ve never paid much attention to how coyotes react to them though, interesting topic. I can certainly see why they would avoid them

here in western ks we have the sandburrs only in our sandhill properties. Here the coyotes avoid the tall and big patches. I dont set in sandburrs and i dont use poly in the sand either. The rats love poly. I use canvas
covers in the sandhills and stay away from the sand burr patches. Coyotes full of sandburrs are (unsanctioned vernacular) to skin.

Here in Colorado my High School job was at a lumber yard. We also stocked schedule 40 and 80 pvc for plumbing. If we got a bunk from out in eastern Colorado. OUCH!!! They embed in the pipe and as you are stocking the pipe up in the appropriate rack you would slide the pipe very quickly through your hand.

I trap a ton of pivot roads and corners, and I'm going to do a comparison on sand burrs vs no and see if it means a bit of difference. I got a nice farm because the Guinea Fowl that farmer bought to eat the burrs started getting eaten by a bobcat.

They don't like it either when they get stabbed doing laundry.

We called them sandburs and Texas sandburs for the goatheads. If you figure how to avoid them let me know. With the drought they are everywhere here.

We’ve got those stinkin’ things here too but mostly the central and western 2/3rds of the state. It wasn’t worth having a bicycle when I was a kid if you didn’t have a paved driveway and road.

Too funny
Out scouting for geese today, following two coyote tracks in the dust,.. Then some funky track in the dust, a coyote must have stepped on one and they circled away.

My vet removes lots of them from dogs

We have grass burrs that have a head like wheat but it is loaded with burrs. Then we have those goat heads and they are straight from the devil. The weed they grow on is flat and looks like a real good spot for your bare foot and then @$%$%Y)Y@)%($Y%4@)(y!!!!!

Not fun to kneel on when making sets either. The things after they poke in tend to cause infection too. Like locust tree thorns do same thing here.
Any kid with bicycle growing up leaned to hate them early on in life for sure.
