One hand setter on here sells setters that make setting traps easier.

Most trapping supply firms carry a variety of trap setters.

Wonder if he could set them at home and wire the jaw on dog side and take the wire off at the site and have night latches on them so it would be simple to see or hear when he got them set. If he gets a hand caught I bet he will figure out how to open it quickly, lol.

When I was a kid I couldn't set a #110 and my dad would set them and I would carry then 300 yards to a pond. Worked great til one day I couldn't see my trap thru the ice and I cut the ice and stuck my hand in to feel for it and snap right across my hand. I had it staked down for bear and couldn't pull the stake and with miraculous strength opened it with my left hand. No wonder I have bouts of arthritis in my hands, lol.

Knew an old guy that was deputy sheriff . He was catching coon in a house attic. He set a #220 where they was running under the upstairs floor. The top part was up against the wall, then he was nailing it to the floor and the thumping set it off and it kicked off from the wall and broke his arm just above the wrist. He had to pull the nail and drove to a neighbors house and they weren't home and had to drive a mile to the next house to get someone to get it off. I've heard him tell it more than a few times.

like mentioned a 1 3/4 and maybe paired with the above mentioned setters would make a heck of a setup!

Longsprings. Way easier for me to set those than stout coils. Otherwise become a snareman.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

At 75 bending over in winter clothing could be a problem the easier the better.

Someone mentioned snares, and as an old guy, I find I'm more anxious to snare than to trap. Gary Jepson and I were talking and we both agreed that snaring is made for geezers!

At 73, every time I make a set it is hard to get back up. I use MB 550 traps which are easier to set than other larger coyote traps plus I stay away from four coil traps. Also, I use the red colored coil spring trap setters which are easy to open up the 550 traps.

Lots of good choices but I think the Montana #3 Coyote Specials are easy to set and easy to use. They are based on a proven design, sold by a reputable man, and probably the closest thing to fool proof I own

Broke my hand one time. That season I used Duke #3 coils. They have longer levers.

Question about one hand setters?
Do they work well for opening traps to release an animal live?

Edit, good on you for taking an elder.
