A few years ago I "think" there was a post about putting up raccoon square. My search for that old post didn't turn up anything. In that thread it mentioned how you needed to make your opening cuts to achieve the "square" look. I do not believe it was as simple as a long ventral cut and then splitting the legs??? Can anyone point me in the right direction to that thread or any information on how to go about opening one up correctly?
My small, brown raccoons don't have any market value right now, so I'm looking to do some experimenting with them.

pahunter - thank you
Wetdog - the coon in your picture is exactly what I want mine to look like.
Looks like it's time for a little trial and error

LOL Dennis It came up for me after a couple of tries but really has no info on the way coon were stretched back in the late 60's. The only pic of a square coon is posted by "Wet Dog". I put them up that way back then but do not recall any special opening cuts. As I recall we just spilt them up the belly like a beaver then spilt the legs out perpendicular from the belly cut.
The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.
