Does anyone see a problem with me checking beaver traps on state land on a Saturday morning at like 8AM?

Opening day for gun season was last Saturday so it's a week later. And we're not talking land traps.

Is there any type of ethics thing I'm violating by dragging stuff around the woods at 8:30 in the morning.

I try to be quiet but I don't want to let beaver sit all day if I'm going to eat it.

Thank you.

I wouldn’t go right at first light, I’d check either a couple of hours before sunrise or late morning/midday. You don’t want to be trudging past someone’s stand just after shooting light.

How long in 40 degree weather can a beaver sit in the swamp and not have any issues (eating)? Can I leave them until mid-morning?

To me there are 2 issues here. One is safety and the other is consideration for other sportsman. Blaze orange helps with the safety issue but so does going a bit later in full light. Going later is also more considerate of the hunter. I suggest following the 10:30 recommendation if practical.

No problem at all. Use common sense and wear orange. You're on land that YOU pay for. You might even bump a deer to some hunter that would have never seen it. Good luck

Last year I could only check my beaver sets after work excepts on weekends. They sat all day. No problems eating.

I'd check em before daylight, traps around here grow feet when checking in the daylight.

Yep. State land, everyone is welcome but you will make some hunters mad. I dont trap there till after rifle season, less chance of my traps walking off.

Thank you all!

I will plan to wait until 10-10:30. I agree with gutthooked statement about checking before first light but I'm going to try 10:30 for now and see if it's ok.

Gives me confidence that I can "be there" even though I know of course that I can.

we hunted state land this year it was so thick saturday we just took sunday off and hunted mid week

besides the suck factor of way to many people around.

I think you will find the parking lots empty out mostly about 10:30

and yes wear your orange

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I would go with the 10:30 suggestion. The beavers will be fine for an extra couple hours. For me I always try to be considerate how my use of the land affects other users. I’d sure hate to ruin someone’s hunt, I’ve had it done to me before and it sucks. Yes, you have the right to be there, you have the right to trudge through there anytime you want, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be considerate of others. They also have the right to be there.

I trapped some BLM land in Wyoming years ago with my oldest Son Bridger. We had traps smashed and nasty notes left by deer/elk/moose hunters. They were hunting animals but were hating us for trapping animals. People are a strange animal.

Best answer is what if you were sitting in a tree deer hunting. Would you want someone walking by checking traps? When does gun season end. If waiting a week would save you lots of grief and or getting shot I say wait..............

I always liked people moving around in the woods after 8,:30 to about 3:00. When people are moving so are the deer.

...yep.....tell them you're a Democrat and you don't think they should be in there hunting when you're wanting to trap beavers. It's for the common good.
