I'm looking for some decent books to read this winter. Trapping, mountain man related. biography or autobiography. I just picked up the Master Trapper by Miranda/Goodman. Really good so far. Let me know your favs. Thanks.

Months of the Sun by Ian Nyshens

The best book I’ve ever read. Order it used. If you don’t like it I’ll buy it back

Joe Cosley
Joe Cosley 1870 – 1943 was a North American ranger and trapper. In 1910, he was one of the first rangers hired by Glacier National Park though he would be subsequently fired in 1911 for illegally poaching and trapping. Cosley regularly carved his names or initials onto the trees in the park, thus adding to his local legend. During his trial for poaching, Cosley escaped and returned to his camp to recover furs he still had there. After escaping into Canada, he sold the furs and lived out the rest of his life trapping in Canada. His body was found in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan after he apparently died of scurvy possibly the year before.

I see there's another thread going around with some good titles, I'll check them out.

Mink Mary and me by Chick Ferguson, Three Against the Wilderness by Eric Collier, The Silence of the North by Ben East, and Starbuck Valley Winter by Roderick Haig-Brown (Fiction), my all time favorite trapping books, I read them every winter. They are out of print and hard to find.

The Mad trapper of Rat River by Dick North is a good I just read. Not a biography but based on the true story of Albert Johnson

Fur Hunters of the Far West. Autobiography by Alexander Ross of the Hudson Bay company covering his brigades of the early 1820's in the Oregon territory. Very good read and rare firsthand account of being one of the first white men to lead brigades into the Snake river country.

Journal of a Trapper by Osborne Russell. Great firsthand account of a fur company in the Rockies during the boom time.
