if it only weighs 300 pounds and the owner cant catch it, since they got out as soon as they were turned into their new pen, my guess is they had a 5 strand barb wire fence instead of hog or sheep fence? they found a likely spot and just went under? couple months? are they sure it hasnt been took to a sale barn or eaten by coyotes? Properly installed and maintained 5 strand barb wire would keep 300lb calf in. Im curious what breed it is tho, 300 lbs isn't very big for a beefer

If they put another beef in a pen and feed and water in a separate pen hooked to it. He will end up going in. They are heard animals. They don't like being along. The other beef will act like a decoy. As far as the blue heeler goes, I have seen way more that had no clue then could do anything with cattle, other then run them out of the country. A trained blue heeler would help, but not every blue heeler is trained.

Check with the local sale barn. If there are any wranglers around they’ll know them. But honestly, a 300 lb mini isn’t going to be worth the cost unless they work cheap. Probably makes more sense to take the rifle. This. Even if you do catch him he is now feral. They will have a hard time keeping him fenced in. Use the rifle eat some steaks.

A couple of horses and a good cow dog there should be no problem getting it roped. 300 pounds is just a little thing.

A trained blue heeler would help, but not every blue heeler is trained. Short story, I was shooting pigeons on a farm with cow and had some long horns. The farmer wanted me to remove the pigeon in the enclosure. I did not want to go in with the long horns. He said just take blue and he will keep them in a corner. I went in the enclosure and here come the long horns, I just said, get them blue and he put all of the in the corner and kept them there until I left the enclosure. Fun to watch.
