Wow, thats a crazy price! My sister called me a month or so back and asked what they were worth because she had one she had gotten somewhere. I told her $150. I have two of those old packs. One is like new. I never use them so maybe I will sell them. They are using them for sheep mounts a lot up here. If you want to sell to an American at a fair price you might have a buyer right here.

I picked up a buck at the taxidermist this fall and he had several backpack bucks on the wall ready for pick-up... I laughed because he said " I spent my whole career trying to make my mounts look lifelike and now this is the craze" lol. I told the taxidermist I was visiting to make sure the mount had fake blood running out of its nose and to leave the tongue hanging out. He liked the fake blood idea and said he was going to run it past his customer.

In the past I found detailed instructions on the net on how to build them. Also seen you tube videos on how to build them. I read about the packboard in the book 'Alaska's wolf man. Good book by the way.

Thats an outstanding mount! Personally I think the idea is awesome. I will get a picture or two of the packs I have today and send them to you or post them here. I shouldn't have showed you, now you'll want to keep it and get a big ol' set of moose antler attached to it. I'm my own worst enemy.

$400 or even $150!? You've got to be kidding? I still find them at garage sales around western Washington (at least I did a couple of years ago) for $25. I think they were originally made in Seattle. Everyone had them back in the early 70's. I've worn-out at least four or five of them in the past 40 years.

I know they wouldn't be original but they can be made pretty easily.

30 years ago I did one for a competition. It was a trapper Nelson pack, leaned against a big rock and a Dall sheep heed and cape strapped in the pack. There was a wolverine on the rock, tugging on it ,trying to get it loose. One of the glass eye companies made a custom set of eyes with the pupils fully dilated then I coated the glass eyes to give them a glazed over look.
The mouth was slightly open and slightly offset with the tongue hanging out.I'm not sure I can find a picture and it wouldn't be great quality but if I do,I'll put it up. WOW! That would be an awesome display/mount.
