Went in on Monday afternoon to take a look and found that while there was ice everywhere else, there are so many beaver moving around the feed pile it was open water. Less ice today and none around the fee pile which is huge! They have leveled everything in the area. There was a lot of tail-slapping going on today but I did not misd because at least I could tell where the buggers were! During deer season there was a lot of otter sign around there too, I think because of the open water. It's very close to where I caught my first otter years ago. Had him tanned and he is still 60" from nose to tip of tail. Saw a bigger one out there while calling for coyotes. Could not believe how huge he was. Hope I have something to take pictures of tomorrow! With them watching me it might take a while. I will be putting in more sets tomorrow as well. Hard to tell how deep the channel is but if deep enough I will go in with MB750's and drowners. Moosetrot

I had that happen behind our town hall! Beaver rushed me growling and snarling. Got in my 330 in 5 minutes I actually sat for a while expecting that to happen. Will be putting in more sets tomorrow. Moosetrot

I have had that happen a couple times. My experience was they were hard to catch. Almost like they started out educated. Hope its different for you, good luck! Same thing a few years back, I had two swimming around when I was setting, I planned on a 3 day check but went back the next day to pick up all my fur and I had a big... ZERO. Finally took them in blind sets a good distance from where I originally set.

How about making the set....and take about 35 paces, back to the truck, and hear the trap go off.

That sounds like a dandy colony to trap in Feb/Mar.

If you have castor from a different colony. hang a little bit beyond a 330 in a diving set . You will usually catch the adults. . Coming to drive off a stranger. Good luck. old243 I had time to do that very thing this afternoon! Thanks! Will be putting in more tomorrow. Plenty of area and plenty of beaver. I had a big one sitting on the opposite bank about 15 feet from me, chewing a stick, and I could hear the chewing/ Moosetrot
