For self defense you want a fixed blade hidden on your left side, if your right handed. Bill makes a good one and offers classes. You can find it in his store. https://www.amtacshooting.com/upcoming-courses/

Case 4 1/8 in trapper is my edc and has handled anything from moose on down, Same here. My brother got it for me for Christmas ten years ago, I’ve carried it every day since. Muskrats, beavers, foxes, skunks, badgers, coyotes, bobcat, deer, antelope, trout, walleye, pike, grouse, pheasants, and my steak at dinner, stripping wires, it’s done it all. The handle is missing a chunk and the blade is starting to show signs of wear from sharpening, might be almost time to retire it.

Somebody asked me as to why I carry a knife. I asked them "do deer die on the road"? They were speechless but then again they probably figure heat comes from the furnace and food comes from the grocery store!

people get all weird when you produce a Machete from the map pocket of your truck door
What? it s a Truckchete doesn't every one have a truckchete
yes deer do die on the side of the road!
heat comes form the wood in the stove.
I picked up a short machete this year for carrying hunting I keep getting all tangled up in vines and such pushing through swamps and fields short-chete a couple swings and I have a new trail but as a 12 incher not too hard to carry.
BraskaYoter , you used to be able to put knives in your checked baggage , I Think you still can. been a while but when I flew to FL that is what I did and just brought a folder , Disney checks the ladies purses but not your pocket

Because it makes a lot less noise than a 38 spc. A knife doesn’t run out of bullets either. But I don't have to be in arms length. LOL

I have not been since they started that. Before They would catch your knife if you used its pocket clip. They never noticed the 380 in the ankle hoster or knife if you dropet into your pocket.
