Finally received permission for some land that is owned by a missionary to the Philippines. The guy that controls the land called about trapping coyotes. He asked me how he would know where the traps are so he wouldn’t step in them. I said you won’t be able to find or see them. Almost was told no at that point because he was worried the trap would cut off his foot. He actually thought I would be setting as he called them bear traps with huge teeth. Good conversation with the guy and I picked up about 300 acres...

Had a similar deal where i had permission to trap. I just finished up and seen this fellow without permission of course walking his dog off leash. I told him of my traps and that a good chance dog could get caught. He kind of freaked out and wanted to know if i used bear traps with the teeth. I showed him some traps and how they worked, and he seem satisfied. But yes, like most, very informed.

I always explain if the trap has a 6 inch spread the reach is around 1/2 of that closed.

I get people letting theyre dogs run on property i trap and they get mad im trapping, even though theyre trespassing. Also everyone asks what i do with the dead animals, no one knows you skin them? They think you just kill em and toss them in the ditch.

off topic but I've had land owners insist that if I catch any dogs I'd better be prepared to kill them if I want to continue with the permission.

wiggle your fingers show them you are caught but not hurt , the blood still flows to your fingers

set down on a chair and put your feet on the levers and open it back up pulling your hand out , the job of the trap is to Trap the animal not hurt the animal ,

they should have no fear of stepping in one of those traps step on one with your boot and it snaps but doesn't do anything.
