Anyone do anything with them food wise, not for bait. I remember years ago a guy at my sportsmen's club (long passed) made deer ribs in sauce and they were awesome. He said he boiled them 3 or 4 times tossing the water each time to get the sticky fat out. He would also use every 3rd rib to get the meat if you get what I'm saying, I've tried but could really never replicate it. Anyone else mess with them?

Yes for dog food. Never had them turn out the few times we tried.

I cut out the meat and add to burger, figure it's better than tossing it.

I've always just baked covered then in the oven with salt and pepper.
They are a favorite of mine. Never understood why people waste them.

What imiller said, except we do the Rinella recipe that uses a pressure cooker. After the pressure cooker they go on the grill with sauce for a few minutes each side and they are delicious. All the fat ends up on the inside of the pressure cooker and is a bit of a mess to clean but the result is worth it.

Can them. Take a saws all to the rib cage, cutting ribs off in lengths that you can pack in a wide mouth quart jar. Can them as you would any venison....the rib bones pull out when you open the jar. Fries up great.

I also use the Meateater recipe. Tried it last year and turned out well. It does leave a waxy taste after, but it is well worth it. Take the time to cut out as much of the waxy fat as you can. I recommend trying them

Roll them up, stuff center of roll with pork sausage and either bake in oven or better yet cook on a smoker.

Use to eat them when I was a kid. Too much work to get them good for me to mess with now.

Plus with CWD being fairly close I have decided not to cook anything with bones in it.

We're trying them for the first time this year. My processor always took the rib meat and ground it into the burger. I've seen the stack of bones in his shop, he gets it all. My 6yo daughter is a real meat eater. She talked me into trying deer ribs this year. Ill look up that Meat Eater recipe.

My roe bucks are so small that I cut the rib cages intwo two or three pieces and BBQ them. Not fatty at all and good eating.

I put a rub on them and cook them on the grill or open fire pit. Won’t throw them away again.

Best I have ever had was in camp, after boning out the loin and not to close put the whole rib cage over hot coals. Let the fat drip off and we just used salt, pepper and garlic powder. Run a stick through them so you can do the reverse side and cook until brown and crispy. You wont throw them out again, combination of smoke, spices and outdoors is fit for a king.

Used to feed them to the dogs, now the coyotes get them, and I don't feel bad about it..
A friend of mine tried some once, I guess he didn't cook them long enough, he grabbed a mouthful and started pulling, when the rib slipped from his hand he said it almost put his eye out....LOL
