I hear a lot about using mini marshmallows for cage bait I see people use them and they catch skunks yes they do so I thought let’s give them a go. The little ones were on sale for a dollar a bag so I bought 6 bags about a week ago to try.

After a week or 10 days I believe we now have the fattest mice and rats in all SD. I bait then I check and rebait every other day the same cages are empty of bait the next trap still has bait. LOL

I couldn't tell you. Every time I get a bag I eat them.

I know they work well on coon in DP's, dipped in grape jelly with a golf ball on top

Yeah, the mice just carry the minis off as fast as you can put them in there. Big ones for coon....not so sure about skunks.

Suspend an old clean tuna can tin from wire from top of cage and down low enough to be accessible to skunks but high enough mice can't reach the marshmallows in the tin. I use a nail punch to center a hole in the bottom of the can for wire to go into. Then fill er up.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I use white bait cages I make out of 16ga cage wire. They are suspended from the top back

I roll marshmallows in jello powder to give them a scent. Yes, they attract everything you aren't trying to catch. Woods here are filled with feral cats so I switched my DPs to canned corn. Cats seem to like marshmallows too - who knew?

Yep been getting cats but I have fresh rat carcasses in the cages also in many so it’s hard to tell, coon and skunk numbers are hit and miss this year so again it’s tough to gauge what works or doesn’t.

Marshmallows are great eye appeal. Use them in pocket sets along with a lure all the time

Till that day.....

They are good coon bait. I'd think eggs/egg shells would be pretty attractive to skunks if you want eye appeal.

I often use mini marshmallows with good success. I suggest Kraft brand to start with as they have less tendency to stick together. Regardless if using Kraft or generics, I suggest mixing them with a good dose of flour which will keep them from sticking together. I store them in a white plastic bait jar. Before working a cage trap floor into the ground I'll dig a hole under the trap treadle area and give a shaking of marshmallows into the hole. . This will help prevent rodents from easily packing off your bait and creates a focal point of digging activity for your target animal.. I will toss a few outside the trap along with a few inside. Just a few as you do not want your target animal to eat its fill before focusing on the ones under the treadle. I always incorporate an appropriate lure also which I suspend above and slightly beyond the treadle. The combination works far better than using either one alone.

I seem to have major avoidance with cups. I like the idea, I need to tweak my sets some, I guess.
