lasers and breaching standoffs and cosmetic stuff I agree
but holding the light and the shotgun or any gun at the same time is a real pain so a light and a sling I see as a benefit.
click on the light and focus on the target not loosing your grip on the light or having it pointed off target
target ID is critically important a guy I used to work for he had been a buy agent with Narcotics in the late 70s he heard movement in the house grabs his gun and heads for the hall hears them coming around the corner he at least had the good sense to click on the light switch , surprised the heck out of his 5 year old who proceeded to drop the glass of water and it broke all over the floor
target ID is critically important

slugs over pernitrate and buck spreads a lot
not really a wrong answer just maybe one better for you
one near by PD went to all slugs as they have only one projectile to be responsible for , buck spreads and if your shooting and you hit with 8 and that 9th pellet flyer misses your still responsible for it
another department went all #4 buck as it tended to only go through one wall and not several
another pd went 223 with Hornady Urban TAP basically a 55gr V-Max one of the concerns is if they are serving a warrant in the trailer park and they have use it they didn't want to have to worry as much about it penetrating 2-3 trailers one was going to be bad enough
everyone needs to think about their most likely and make the best decision they can #00 buck is roughly the size of a 9mm bullet. Have 9 of those fly through the house can be dangerous. #4 bird shot at 10 feet even out of a cylinder bore is going to be like a slug but it won’t penetrate through 21 walls of drywall. yes that is why that department went #4 buck , they shot up some walls testing it they decided it was good enough for one wall but seemed to go throught fewer then 00 there is only the answer that is more right for you.

You Gentlemen are well meaning but a little tardy, to class. There has been a shotgun by the door, here, since the house was built in 1960. Charlie

Not trying to be a richard here but I must say I'm glad we don't have to live in fear like that. Fear? There is a loaded shotgun by every door as well as other places throughout the house. I ain't scared of chit!
I have nothing clever to put here.

Not sure if I should muddy it up with a sling or not ?
What say you? NOT I don't want the chance on getting it hung on something when/if I need to swing fast to shoot a crack head.

Must be pretty dangerous in the U.S. running to a neighbours for help in the middle of the night if your house catches on fire. My neighbors have cell phones to call the fire department. Maybe that is a US thing. Are you not allowed to have cellular devices in Canada?

I don't want guns by doors. 10-20 ft away, to be picked up on the way to the door. Those aren't door guns. Those are the end table guns, bathroom guns, night stand guns and refrigerator guns!

What was I thinking. Maybe helping neighbours in a crisis is a Canadian thing. Arming yourself to the teeth with insecure loaded firearms lying all over your house to prepare for some zombie apocalypse not so much. lol. "Insecure loaded firearms"? Everyone in this house knows where they are at, what they are and exactly how to use them. My house, my rules. In your house you are welcome to make a phone call and wait for someone to arrive to help.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Crit r dun
How many people shot in Toronto? Would you want to live there with your registered nail file? Lots. There's almost no chance of me even going there let alone living there. I'd like to say gangbangers killing each other over their drug debt is urban renewal unfortunately there are innocents in the backgrounds.
