What's the fastest way to prep new degreased coyote traps? I have wax, Speed Dip, FMJ and my Rustoleum water trapping mix on hand. A dairy and feedlot want me setting ASAP so I don't feel like waiting for the gasoline smell to disappear. Thanks!

As long as they’re clean and degreased go ahead and set them. They’ll develop a nice coat of rust this season and you can treat them next summer any way you want.

Should I wax them quick for the rest of the season and dye and wax next year like normal? I'm 95% of water trapper, so I don't know how much you can het away with as far as scent with K9s.

Nah, wax is only to protect the trap from rusting. On new traps you’ll want a coat of rust anyways for prepping later, so set em just like they are and they’ll be just fine. The only thing that matters right now, as far as fooling coyotes, is that they are clean

If you have wet weather and acidic soils you're gonna regret no treatment.

I'd wax em.

Wax! Protection and it makes them a little faster.

Last year I bought 3 Bridger 5 specials off ebay.
Set them right outta the box in sandy beach area
I could smell the factory oil..I threw some snow over it....and lured with gusto and special oil.
The lure was too much and it caught a big male wolf. Point being....eliminate any suspicion and create an irresistible temptation. It can help to treat them but surely it isn't required.
I'm sure the firing squad will blaze away

I'd spray them off at the car wash and set them. Just my opinion.
