Well, started looking at pocket knives for my son. Thinking about something the size of a mini trapper or smaller. I hesitate to ask as this might be a Ford vs Chevy topic, but never hurts to get other opinions. What say ya?

I like and have both. Back when i was a kid my dad always carried a Case ( sodbuster model) I had one for a time way back when but eventually lost it. I hadnt seen one since and thought they must have stopped making them many years ago, but a good friend from MO brought me one up a couple years ago so they are still out there. I really like that model, although my all time favorite is a Victorinox 'officers model' I use it for everything from marten to moose.

Schrade knives are now made in China. I bought a bunch of the 77OT Improved Muskrat knives that were still made in America when I found out the company was changing hands. You might look into new old stock for your son.

I don’t know anything about the modern Case knives.

Eh...wot?

Buy a Case, he will be able to give it to his son unless he looses it.
Old timers aren't what they used to be.

Old Timer or an Uncle Henry made in the USA is the way to go.

Let's go Brandon!

Carbon steel, easy to sharpen. Very hard to find around here for the last 20 years. I bought all I could find. Paid $15.99 each back then.

Thanks Rudy, pretty likely the China thing Lugnut mentioned probably has something to do with that.

Just received a Case medium stockman xx surgical stainless made in USA. Ordered it from the factory outlet store in Louisiana. It replaced the same model I lost up on the mountain when I took a spill while elk hunting.
Schrade has been made in China for quite a while now as have the wooden handles Bucks.
The Case was $55.55 to my door in five days. I had the last one over 20 years about $2.60 a year I can live with that.

Buck USA is my best bet! Forever lifetime warranty if his great grandson breaks the blade he can get it replaced by Buck.

Case. Been carrying a case for ten years, and when I replace it it’ll probably be with another case

I'm partial to Case. My Grandfather retired from the Case factory many years ago in Bradford, PA. I have a BUNCH of them. Been collecting them for years. Everything from Case steak knives to a hatchet and many different styles of knives.

I have a two blade Case that was my grandfathers. I am now 74. I have it in a safe so that it will be around for my grandson. Blades are carbon steel and side are bone. My dad and grandpa used it to cut leather for harness repairs.

I also have an old Barlow. Always called them electrician's knives.
