What size board would you all use for a swift fox? or some call them kit fox. They are a good bit smaller than a red but I am thinking that a red board or a grey board might be best for it. Thoughts?

Skunk boards work well. but may need narrowed up for the smaller fox.

I was asked and i think it is important to note that the Swift fox is a protected species in the State of Wyoming. This animal was caught in my trap and Wyoming Fish and Game and Myself together decided to take the animal instead of release it injured. I have an interstate tag and paperwork for the possession on the animal.

I ended up deciding that i was going to keep the fur and tan it so boarding it directly correct was not as critical for what i am going to use it for. I used a Buck Mink board laid over a medium coon board to get through the neck and shape the face. The coon board taper then finishes off the lower body. It is not perfect and not correct i know but i am going to be tanning and cutting trim pieces from it.

We use a miniature adjustable stretcher, each side is about 3/8”-1/2” thick 1 1/2” wide with a 6-8” spreader bar across the bottom. The nose of the boards are tapered from about 4-6” from the end to form the head and neck area. Make them 3’ long so you have room for the tail to hang. They are just a miniature coyote/fox stretcher. We have used wood lath strips also.

Good to hear, I was kind of worried about that catch.
WG&F is usually very good at working with trappers on things like that.
They are pretty little foxes and we actually have a bunch around our part of the state.

Hope it turns out nice for you and congrats on the catch and getting to keep it.
