I notice CCI, Sierra Bullet and most others all seem to maintain a website where you can purchase their ammo direct, yet they don't have availability. Really? They are making it as fast as they can and they can't get their hands on any either?
To ration this stuff out, seems to me they could reallocate as much supply as needed to their own sales operation. Package each product in small lots.....say 100 or 500 rounds of stuff like .22 lr, or 40 rounds or a case of large caliber, and limit sales to 1 count per order. Anybody out, but desperate enough would pay full retail, plus the shipping, but doing it that way would mean the buyer is paying double. Not sure even hoarders would do that.
CCI, Sierra, etc, suck up all the markup from the distribution channels and reap enough windfall to pay for expansion if needed. What they can't sell goes on to distribution network, but at least a buyer would always have a place to buy something.
All they would need to do is prepackage the stuff in ready to ship boxes, have it stacked on pallets and pull orders as needed, slap a shipping label on it, then load a truck headed for the post office or UPS distribution center.
Basically do nothing they are not already set up to do, but not doing.

Hoarders snatch it up cause they can. That pallet spoken for? Any limit? NO? Well load it in my truck then.
Hoarders couldn't do that if you could only buy a few small lots at a time.......CCI would only have to move it to the far corner of their shipping warehouse to sell it.
Everybody gets a little......nobody gets it all.

The same guys complaining are the ones that walked by the same shelves when they were full time and time again. LOL

They don't need to do any of that. They are already selling out as fast as its made, so why do anything extra? To shut down the hoarding mentality and to ease their critics. Both equally important. They would also reap a windfall on everything sold. They get full retail price instead of wholesale......which would not surprise me if that was double or more. Hoarders grab what they can, when they can, as they fear they won't be able to buy it. If I'm at a store, and I see a brick, and it's available, I might grab it even though I don't need it. Out of fear I don't be able to buy anything. On the other hand, if you can always buy a little, there would be no need for me to grab it. If I need a box of shorts for dispatch ammo, and I'm running low, I'd always have a place to go. Don't need to snatch that brick.

The only annoying thing about the ammo shortage for me is that things like 30/30 are sold out, who the heck is hoarding 30/30? Or 20 gauge slugs? And that's what I'm talking about. If a guy only needed a couple boxes to get him through deer season, he could always find them. Not cheap, but always available. Always. Shuts down the motivation to grab anything available.......just because.

The same guys complaining are the ones that walked by the same shelves when they were full time and time again. LOL This is a fact in many cases. A good solution would be for everyone to keep a few years worth of stock on hand. Every election year we have a scare just not always so big. This year we had multiple scares with covid, looters, and an election making it a little worse than normal. If your household only hunts and uses a few boxes of ammo each year, keep 10 boxes on hand when the shelves are full. If your household has multiple range days during the summer and use 15 thousand rounds or so, keep 50 thousand on hand when shelves are full. Doing this you should be just fine during these shortages and can restock your own shelves when the store shelves are once again full. It would be much easier on the wallet to stock up when shelves are full instead of paying these inflated scare prices. The only downfall to this practice would be you not having anything to complain about during the ammo shortages. If this is a real problem for the hard core complainers, I guess you can still complain if you feel you must.

I was at a gun show yesterday where there was a big supply of 9MM FMJ for .65 each if you bought 100. I didn't see a box sell in an hour's time.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

I thought 30 cents a round at scheels was high but right for the times. One thing about buying extra is when you buy at regular price when quantities are plentiful, you can be pretty sure prices arent gonna go down any.

To me the best solution is to buy ammo when it is available and reasonable. Then there isn't a reason for panic buying. A couple years ago I posted on here about Rem Thunderbolts being on sale, I caught flack about it being cheap ammo . I wonder how many would like a case now. The time to buy ammo isn't when its at a record high. Its not really complex. I have not bought any ammo for about a year. The last I got was 10 ga shells for $8-$13 a box at an auction.
