If you can get to them before the dog does, they work fine.

Dont get any of the horse hoof liquid on you or anything.

Smells like the liquid in an open septic tank, with turds floating in it.

Stuff is too raw for me to use.

I've made hoof juice before.
I use deer hooves now. And it is almost the exact same smell
I broke a half full gallon jar of it 2 summers ago in my shed
I through 2 boxes of baking soda on it and poured a large bottle of peroxide on it and closed the door for a month
I still get a whiff every now and then when the floor gets wet
I use it for grays. They seen to really like it

Getting the stink off my hands after trimming my 2 is always a challenge. I can imagine the clippings working as bait.

Use the soft frog part of the trimmings, not the hard outer part. If you want to store them before using them, cover them in glycerin and they will stay soft. Grind them and add to some deer or horse brains for a base, then add some white musk or even Tonquin if you can get quality stuff. A little dried ground castor works wonders for them too.

I think if it were anything special someone would be making it to sell.

I am sure if you would pay the right farrier, they would save them, just like trappers save caster. It may not be free, but what is?

Look up horse hoof tea in archive

Also if you want to get some trimmings in bulk find the biggest dairy around and ask if you can sweep up after they trim feet a couple times.

Yep
Been used for over a century actually and in some older lure making books.
You could Search horse hoof lure
And probably find our discussions and recipes
