I don't have the exact text I sent my Congressman I will pariphrase
OPPOSE HR8828
this will ban most trapping even the city of Madison recognizes the need for trapping to maintain waterways and hires trappers to trap in Madison.
we use the same tools to trap animals as the researchers do that collar coyotes and let them go , so these traps are not harmful or inhumane.
I will come to you office and stick my hand in a foot hold trap to show you they are not damaging
this is no joking matter , this reply letter however is a Joke considering what I sent.
Dear Mr. Pete
Thank you for contacting me about ongoing efforts to reduce animal cruelty. I value your opinions and appreciate you taking time to write me.
As a member of the Animal Protection Caucus, I will continue to support efforts to stop the inhumane treatment of animals. As a supporter of animal rights, I understand how important it is to protect animals that cannot protect themselves. I believe that all animals deserve respect and humane treatment. Unfortunately, many animals, including endangered species, farm animals and even pets, are abused and mistreated. Congress can play an important role in promoting the fair and humane treatment of all animals. I will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advocate for animal rights and prevent animal cruelty.
You may be pleased to know I am an active supporter of animal rights, and have cosponsored multiple pieces of legislation in this vein. Bills I have cosponsored include: H.R. 1002 the WOOF! Act, which continues the fight against harmful commercial dog breeders; H.R. 693 the PAST Act, which strengthens the penalties for harm inflicted on horses; H.R. 737 the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act of 2019, which prohibits the sale of shark fins - a species currently in sharp decline; and H.R. 724 the PACT Act, which would bolster existing animal cruelty legislation. Lastly, in the 115th Congress I was a co-sponsor to H.R. 2790, the Humane Cosmetics Act, which prohibits testing cosmetics on animals and the sale or transport of cosmetics that use animal testing at any point in the manufacturing process.
We must do more to ensure the humane treatment of animals, both in captivity and in the wild. I will be sure to support any related legislation seeking to ensure the support and safety of animals.
