I'm not old enough to remember him but from what I have researched, he was a cold blooded killer/murderer.

States vary on determining LEO's and "Game Wardens" enforcement powers. . . e.g. In Maryland, NRP, (Natural Resource Police Officers) ARE State Police Officers and the oldest State Police Force in that state. They have FULL STATE POLICE POWERS regarding conservation, traffic, water, as well as any other LEO duties encountered. Some are also duly assigned as Federal Game Wardens and U.S. Customs Agents.

At least the guy isnt critical. I hope it doesn't cause future health issues.

The shooting was deemed accidental.

Game Wardens are shot at, or shot more than publicized due to hunters reacting to "surprised movement" , especially while deer or turkey hunting just like other hunters in the field.

Which is one thing that always perplexed me..what training or instinct makes certain hunters first move is to draw their weapon and fire at whatever is moving?

The elk hunters that come from seattle to our side of the state call it taking a “sound shot”. Very dangerous

Many "hunters" are not trained, or not properly "trained", or just don't care what they're shooting at. It is human nature to react to sudden, unexpected stimuli. Similar to the "fight or flight syndrome".

I think many people when startled react violently, because that's how millions of years of evolution have programmed us.

In this case it appears that one of the poachers shot at the fake deer and hit the game warden who was on the far side.

For those interested the officer is doing well. He has had a couple surgeries and us responsive. It's hopeful he will make a full recovery.
