Can anyone recommend a good/proven cat rub lure ? Two days ago my son sent me a trail cam pic of good sized cat moving through a thick narrow strip of cover that connects two swamps . I went over and did a little scouting . I found a beaver eaten to the bone (only head, feet ,backbone and some ribs ) and a picked clean small buck with tracks indicating the cat was spending a lot of time there (as well as coyotes and fox) . The swamp was frozen and we had about a foot of snow . I set two cubby type sets in the swamp in the area of the carcasses .I got two raccoons that plugged up my sets and now we got clobbered by rain and warm temps . The swamp is now flooded and the snow is gone . The only place left to set is the connector strip but that cover is closer to houses . I don't want to use any bait that would attract loose domestics (there don't seem to be any but the potential is there). I found a spot where the cat passed between two trees close together . Im going to fence it down a bit and put in a set but I want to up my chances by using something that will have it linger and do the happy feet . Its tracks also passed through the strip in several other places as well . I think a few blind sets and a rub lure set or two will cover the area its moving through . The property Im trapping on is private and I have permission . I just think that a bait set has the potential to draw in a domestic that would not be there otherwise .

Tom thank you for the reminder about Wayne . I had forgotten about him . I just got off the phone with him and placed an order . Bruce , thats what I'm thinking . The snow is now gone and its all big uneven rocks under there . It will be a little difficult getting a set in the best spot . Maybe some good rub lure on each tree will get it moving back and forth .

I’d go 5-6 feet each way of those two trees making flat spots for the cat to step. He’s showing the stride. Of course one or two of the center flat spots would have traps.

Good news and good news. First, there are lots of guys making a good rub lure and quite a few right here this board. I have used ground up castor with glycerin and had great results. 2nd, you have identified a natural place to make a cat rub but quite honestly I have great luck making my own. When Osky mentions going to each side and setting I not only think he is correct but also that you can plant you own post and use it to make a rub set that does not have tree roots to work around.

If you are in a snow thaw, snow thaw weather cycle I would highly suggest setting exposed pans and boxing them in with sticks so the cat has to step on the pan to rub his face on the post. It works

Waynes Pecks and Bob Jameson Serria Mist and plan old beaver castor will treat you right apply 18”- 20” high,I agree with Osky block down on his trail and include a couple of in line walk throughs, good luck looks fairly open terrain so flagging at your walk through should help you out with those bobcats

Wayne has the rub lures dialed in. O'Gorman's Powder River Cat call is a proven rub lure as well.
