There are some lure makers and suppliers that sell Weasel Glands. Now being as small as they are (glands), I'd think one would have to collect glands from 100 weasels just to fill a 1 oz. jar! And at today's fur prices
I doubt weasels get little trapping pressure these days!

So my question would be when buying weasel glands, are you actually getting a jar of glands or are you getting a tincture of the glands resulting in less than an ounce of actual glands?

Tinctures are labeled as such from what i've seen on websites. Tincs are liquid.
The jars of glands i have purchased had solids in them.
I have a suspicion that ferret glands are sold as weasel glands at times.

You can always ask the supplier/seller too.

Theres supply companys that I would think would be selling the real uncut glands if that is what they are advertising and I think there are ones that are cutting products even on more available products than weasel glands for the name of profit. Quality and consistent formulations start with high quality ingredients and this is were time and experience comes into play.

So to answer your question I'd say it probably depends on who you order them from.

Not near enough volume of weasel glands available to really offer authentic glands for retail sale. Most i would think are tinctured ferret glands or pure cut glands at a high cost. I would like find enough to work with myself.

Bob, my feeling exactly. It’s too bad that we have to put up with fraudulent advertising for goods that are not genuine.
When one considers the low amount paid for furs today, there is no incentive to even go after animals for fur let alone harvesting glands!

Watching the fur prices going down every year and the lure prices going up every year, I can’t help but question the authenticity of lures sold today. Had you told me 20 years ago that I’d be paying $25 for a 4 oz. jar of lure at some point, I would have laughed. But here we are. It used to be a good prime pelt could get you a few jars of lure. Now it’s how many prime pelts you have to give for one jar of lure!

That sure is the truth. The problem is that with fewer critters being caught means fewer glands that are available. The supply and demand element causes the price of the glands to go up. The lure maker has the choice of cutting the amount of quality glands he/she puts in their lures to keep the lures at the same price, or raise the price of the lures to make it feasible to keep the lure's quality using the more expensive glands. If you want quality lure, it will be reflected in the price.

Uhhh, ferrets? Just kidding. I'm not sure what kind of a place would be harvesting ferret glands.

grin just seems like ferrets would be in shorter supply than weasel but I kind of live in my own little world here so I though maybe I was missing something

I'm sure ferrets are in shorter supply than weasels. I've never seen ferret pelts at a fur auction, but I have seen a few ferrets in pet stores. They're a novelty item and quite expensive. I'm sure a vet is going to charge a couple hundred bucks to descent an animal. No money in ferret glands I'm sure.

Ferrets are in big demand in the pet industry and is a growing business from what I know.
