That ton of chips has about 750 lbs or less of chips usable for OSB most in the woods chip producers don't make the long chips that go into OSB. The chips made in the woods are probably going to a cogeneration plant for energy. Or to a operation like ours that colors and bags landscape mulch. I know I have been paying very well for Red Pine post logs in 12, 10, 8 and 7 foot length. A week or so ago it seems I remember 1/2 osb here was just over $17.00 4x8 sheet. It may have went up. I will look today.

Thats pretty low for osb

Honest question. Are you aware how much of your lumber comes from here? It supplies about 1/3 of construction needs there. Are you aware of the tariffs added? (you pay for them)

While the idea behind the tariffs was likely well intended (make American companies more competitive price wise) it just led to you paying more for wood from Canada.

Weyerhaeuser alone lists 34 OSB mills in the US, three in Minnesota alone. 20 I think in Canada. I doubt the tarrifs have caused the retail price to more than quadrupled.

Osky, it’s fine to “doubt”, that is your take on things. Doubt is not “know” and there are many articles pertaining to tariffs and the cost being passed to consumers. You could take a little time to read up on it, then you could take your doubt and solidify it into a “know”. I’m not saying they are solely to blame for your higher prices but they’re factoring in big time. To not acknowledge that is either ignorant or arrogant, or both.

I do not doubt tarrifs are hi. Nor what you say. OSB did not go from 6 dollars something per sheet to the edge of 30 dollars per sheet retail price in 9 months solely on tarrifs. There’s greed mixed in there as well, plus a few other factors.

Osky

Home Depot had 2nd quarter earnings up at 23%. 3rd quarter at just over that. Lowe’s I think posted better than 30% increases in those two quarters as well.

The increase in consumer demand due too covid is the MAIN reason for the increase in lumber prices.

The tariffs are a very minor factor.

Lumber tariffs were 20% as of Dec. 1 they are 9%. That doesn't explain a 300% increase. Like most things there are many factors that are affecting the price.

everyone is doing home renovations

lots of plywood boarding up American businesses over the summer miles of plywood and OSB covering windows

my wife works for a millwork plant , they can't build and ship doors fast enough to keep up

anyone who could afford to move out of a city is

home values outside of big cities are going crazy

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Well 330, I do “know” that I just paid 31.00 per 16’ 2x10 floor joist, 5.79 per precut stud, 6.57 for simple 8’ Studs, well over 2 dollars a foot for lineal 2x4. 33.00 for tongue and groove 3/4” floor plywood.
I did however mitigate things a bit using a military discount.
I think RV... maybe took some of what I said out of context. I’m not too proficient at getting my point across legibly at times in these forums.
My fault.

There goes another Canadian telling an American he's Ignorant or Arrogant.

Isn't it Ironic, or should I say Ignorant & Arrogant of a typical Canadian attitude.

Too Funny.

For the record, it’s not typical Canadian attitude.

Just a few on this forum.

It’s actually very embarrassing.

It could indeed be arrogant of me walleyed, but it’s not ignorant.believing the US is self sufficient in raw materials is ignorant.
