Looks like it works. If using for muskrat is it just ment to catch one or can more still get in with the door closed by pushing it open? Really just a single catch, that being said you could have it without the springs but still triggered and after the first can't they would just push though like a regular colony but kinda defeats the purpose lol. There's guys in WA using basically a big version of this for beaver and works about the same

Very ingenious and looks well made. Unfortunately I think you invented a double door live trap.
Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

I like the idea of the door hinged on the side.
I was using a similar style of spring loaded door but hinged from the top (like normal) for marten trapping. I had a couple escape by working their nose under the door and forcing it open -two springs put a stop to that but caused other issues. Trail cam video though showed that the marten would naturally direct their nose to the bottom of the trap when they worked over the door. I'll bet hinged from the side would confound their efforts. I think you should experiment a little more with that style. The trap being rather asymmetrical like that sort of messes with our minds, but often those are the things that end up working best.

Lol basically, just thought it would be cool to have a way to turn your off season colony traps into double door for squirrels or something. Honestly if you take the springs off the trigger bar and whiskers just lay flat it it's like any ordinary colony trap

Actually had this chipmunk get out when I tried picking the cage up by getting his head under the gap made by the side of the cage
